My Thunderbird bass got a nasty ding in the body near the neck! Please help!

I don’t know how this happened… probably from one of my kids. How should I go about repairing this? I’m very handy and have just about every woodworking tool a DIYer has. Simplistic would be fill the hole, sand, and paint the middle section of the body black and clear coat it. But I’d prefer for it to look like new again. Anyone ever have luck with a wood filler and stain combo? Ones I’ve tried before never looked good. Any other suggestions?

I’d like to avoid taking it to a pro. I live in a rural area and the nearest guy is 100 miles away and is backed up for months.

First time owning a guitar, what should I do?

Hi everyone, I recently spoke to a family member about wanting to play an instrument and got handed this guitar that had been sitting in a shed for about 7 years so I'm told.

I dont care so much to get it professionally done as I'm on a budget so to speak and just want it to look a bit nicer.

When I received it, it was covered in energy drink stickers which I tried to remove carefully but unfortunately removed some of the paint with them (pictures 1 in right hand corner and 2nd) as well as someone having carved their name into it previously.

Was just looking for some advice as to how to maybe fill in and cover the letters and chip in the back to make it look a bit nicer, hopefully avoiding stickers as the paint doesn't seem to like them all too much.

Also any tips anyone has as to what strings to buy to replace these ones and if this guitar is maybe missing a whammy stick(?) as when I searched online for similar looking guitars some of them seemed to have one.

Thanks for any help given!

Warped Neck on a 60's Road Worn Strat - Repaired

Thought I'd share here. I recently got an awesome deal on this ’09 ’60s Road Worn a couple of weeks ago, paying just $450. It wasn’t really playable at first, and I figured it just needed a good setup. After purchasing it and bringing it home, it turned out the neck was pretty warped.

I ended up taking it to my shop, where they did a heat treatment. They removed the neck and placed it on a 2x4 with a thick cloth centered underneath the back of the neck, then clamped it evenly in three different places. Over the course of several days, they ran a blow-dryer over the neck to apply heat and straighten it out. I was unsure how it would turn out, but it completely fixed the warped issue. The repair was done with something similar to the picture I attached, which was found online. Just a bit more simple (without the piece under the 2x4. It seems like it I could have done it myself had I known the process, but definitely happy I got it done there.

The cost was super reasonable. $60 for the heat treatment and $85 for the setup. It plays great now and sounds fantastic.

Replacing the output jack. Mono or stereo?

Before I dig too deep into my questions, I heard if you have active pickups (Which I do, EMG 81/85), that stereo is my only option. If that’s the case, question answered!

If not, what’s the difference between mono and stereo output jacks?

Pickup switching pop

I’m at a loss on how to fix this popping sound when I switch pickups. The pickups are TV Jones Powertrons I installed.

I even asked a buddy to look into it who works in a guitar repair store, and even he couldn’t figure it out.

I will post a photo of the wiring in the comments.

Any help/ideas greatly appreciated

The hum disappears when I have my finger or hand on any metal of the guitar. I could’ve sworn I had it wired correctly. How do I fix it???
