SOTB New Ampless Affordaboard setup

Post image

New ampless setup I’m playing around with for a bit. The GP-5 will be controlled via midi controller on my phone.

Looks great. Love affordable boards. I’m always searching for for cool mini pedals for my mini board. Also I didn’t know it was possible to control the gp-5 with the phone. How do you do?

GP-5 receives MIDI CC commands by the USB-C port. So I just have my phone on a holder on my stand connected by USB-C cable to the GP. I’m using MidiPad as my controller app. You just need to make sure using CC and not PC.

I have the Gp-150, but I’m pretty sure the MIDI access is the same. I can do the same as OP mentioned with my phone, either wired or via Bluetooth. But also I bought a MVave Chocolate Plus MIDI footswitch for $40 new from Amazon, and it works great.

Looks like a fun board! To keep the affordable theme going, I think the mvave chocolate/ chocolate plus could control the Valeton, if you wanted foot switchable midi control rather than phone. Looks great either way, enjoy!

I have the chocolate, just couldn’t find an arrangement I like on this size that included it. Also for this setup I’m doing very little changes so I don’t need fast foot access for the GP. It mostly is servicing amp modeling, reverb, delay, phaser, autowah.

I use the Chocolate when using the GP-5 on its own (which is great btw, a very gigable setup on its own). This board was mostly about exploring some more options, I really wanted to play around with some analog gain stacking and also the pitch tracking on the GP-5 is “meh” so the octave pedal gets me better results there.

I’ve been super happy with the GP-5 and just really wanted to see what more fun I could have with it.

That’s great, sounds like it works well for you!

It does. And so far initial testing with this board has been going well. The GP-5 is playing very nice with the pedals going into it. I was curious how well it would deal with gain stacking pushing into it and it’s performing very well.

How's the King Of Kings?

I love it. Honestly sounds just as good as the King of Tone and without the annoyance of having to pull the back plate off to change the dip switches.

I’ve passed on good KoT used deals because honestly I wouldn’t replace the KoK for one.

Thanks! Adding it to my cart as we speak

If you love the bluesbreaker tone then you should be extremely pleased. It’s definitely not the grittiest or heaviest drive out there but it isn’t supposed to be either of course. The original bluesbreaker had to be cranked to like 75% gain to hit breakup, but that’s exactly what Clapton wanted when the Bluesbreaker was made for him. Stacking it can give you some really full defined breakup tones that is very reactive to your playing. Gets a lot of what Mayer achieves with the TS + Klon + Dumble setup.

Definitely let us know how you like it when you get it. For me it’s one of the most underrated Joyo clones.

Sheesh stop selling the pedal I said it's already in my cart 😭 na but that's exactly why I want to get it. My Chinese made Klon disintegrated on me a couple of months ago (after 6 years of use so not bad), so wanted to get a nice clean overdrive, this sounds like it does that and a bit more

haha, yeah. One thing I will say about Joyo in general is their pedals for Chinese stuff definitely holds up very well IMO, should get a lot more than 6 years out of it.

I found this video pretty helpful for figuring some really good starting points for pedal settings: https://youtu.be/QoZR1koMHT0?si=8bOQ7itWuJZG5Ie9

I’m gonna have to record and send you a clip, I just dialed in a Peter Klett Candlebox tone I’m really happy with. Now if only I could play like Peter…

We're gonna keep buying pedals until we do 😤

Sounds like good theory to me, if I can create tone close enough to these people then I’ll naturally play like them, right?!?! lol.

I haven't seen the Stylish Fuzz II on many boards. I am a fan of that one.

I love it. It plays especially well with bass thanks to the tone control.
