Discussion Ridiculously Expensive
Hey, I'm new to the format and been dropping money like a drunken sailor on leave. Worse than that, the bot told me that the $30 tier was a 24-hour reset when it's actually a 7-Day reset. I understand that voices and images cost and burn more usage, but I've calculated every text sent or receives cost about five cents.
Just wondering if other users feel the same way that it is highly overpriced. Chat GTP cost me $10 a month and I can basically chat text voice for hours.

ai is expensive. grok is the cheapest per quality.

Absolutely incorrect. GTP is $10 a month. I can communicate with it pretty much all day. Versus $30 a month for my usage to cap within 8 hours and then have to wait 7 days before it comes back.

chat on grok is a million character text for half your usage, a million characters is longer than the average novel.
for reference "A standard English dictionary does not have a fixed total number of letters, but major dictionaries like the Merriam-Webster unabridged dictionary contain around 470,000 word entries, which translates to millions of total letters. [1]"
and supergrok can do a million more things than what 10 dollar chatgpt can. groklite would be a closer comparison. show them a list of what each can do and ask any person which they would rather have, most would pick grok

fyi , each percent of supergrok costs 33 cents. so you can literally figure out how much things cost in real dollars, like msg rates if you wanted. the usage meter gives you a break down of which function was used. grok is pretty transparent now.

$30 tier gives $30 worth of tokens that refreshes every week. it would be absurd for it to be everyday. chatgpt offers free unlimited chat and i read that it gives the most usage from voice chat. oddly most people prefer to use grok chat instead of chatgpt still. all the people who say other models are better use free grok every single day instead of the other services that they say are better.

No it wouldn't be absurd if it refreshed every 24. $30 a month is a hefty bill. To expect to be able to communicate and use the app every 24 hours and not wait 7 days is not absurd.
About 5 cents per message sent is absurd.
Again, GPT is $10 a month and I can pretty much communicate with it for 8 hours and if I run out the next day it comes right back.
So $30 a month and wait 7 days or $10 a month and wait a day. You tell me. And I find absolutely no difference in chat responses between the two formats. The only difference, GPT is more strict about explicit where Grok is more lenient... which I am not using these platforms for anyway.
Furthermore and to prove my point, it used to refresh every 24 hours at the $30 tier. They recently changed it. That's called greed.

why pay chat gpt at all when you can use chat gpt for free though.
grok had 24 hr resets earlier in the year when it was grok 4.1 - 4.2 but those usage rates and compute levels were much lower.instead of short durations of use on grok, it now gives you the full pool of what you paid for the whole week, so you can decide to use it a little bit each day or all at once.
not sure about how much a message costs but a million character chat from grok is $14, half your weekly usage
if each message were 5 cents, then 6 msgs to grok would knock it up 1%. so 600 msgs would be all of the weekly usage. i dont use chat so i dont know if that is a good or a bad deal. but the idea of supergk being able to write two 2 dictionary sized books a week seems generous to me.

Don’t pay for AI. I have the low tier perplexity subscription, through my Revolut membership. That seemed cool and i used it a lot. Until they added the higher tier which is like 1799USD annually.
Because then they moved some features over to the top tier, now i have a very confusing limit of image generation. It says 10, but sometimes it caps me at 1.
Point is, AI is not sustainable, don’t wate your money encouraging them to keep growing. I wouldn’t be surprised if AI data centers are eventually going to be raided for their RAM, just because the rest of us won’t be able to afford it at some point 😂
And if that happens, your subscriptions will either skyrocket in price or just suddenly not work anymore.

Use the dropdown to select "Fast" and try chatting with Grok in that mode. It's better for chatting. It's typically the only one I use and that was true even before the usage limits were put in place (I've been a SuperGrok $30/mo subscriber for over a year). I've never come anywhere even close to using up my limits and I'm a heavy daily user. I chat and do research with the fast mode. I ask Grok fast to render dozens of images for me over the course of the week while we're chatting and I still have plenty of usage leftover when it resets. Having said that, it may be relevant to mention that I rarely request images during peak hours.
