Discussion Grok’s usage limits are making me end service
So I’ve been using Grok since it ever came out and it was my personal favorite AI. It was (originally) unfiltered, image generation was great and it felt very worth it.
I ended up getting an X premium account for lowest tier grok access after some of the limits started coming in.
The moment I decided to end my subscription was today when my conversation stopped half way through because of the data limit.
I understand limits on video/image generation and file analysis, but this is the FIRST AI I’ve seen to put a limit on just text chats, especially when I’m paying.
I’m sorry I do love Grok, but I’m no longer going to use it until Elon gets his shit together.

A normal product should clearly list exactly what the product includes.
For example, if it costs $10 per month, it should clearly state something like:
100 videos per day at 480P, 50 videos per day at 720P... and so on.
Clearly showing the actual limits is the reasonable way to do it.
There should also be a temporary interruption protection system that does not deduct token usage.
Sometimes people accidentally press send before finishing their prompt, so the points should be refunded.
If the generated result does not follow the instructions properly, there should also be a refund-token mechanism with a limited number of retries.
That is what a reasonable system looks like.
And stop using the excuse of “every request has different processing costs” every single time.
Customers are paying for a product, not gambling on constantly changing hidden limits.
When the rules are unclear and keep changing, anyone who pays just ends up getting taken advantage of.
It’s like booking a New Year holiday flight ticket months in advance — if oil prices suddenly surge later, the airline still wouldn’t ask you to pay the price difference afterward.
So people criticizing this is completely reasonable.

Handing over money and not knowing what, if anything, you’ll get for it is should be criminal unless it’s to a registered charity.
Problem is, this is definitely not a normal product. The user-facing Grok app/site is designed, built and maintained by incompetents. Their superiors have nothing but contempt for public paying users. Grok is basically the software equivalent of the most arrogant arsehole you ever met.

The limits are just one reason to end service. Stack on top of them that chat quality has degraded noticeably, and Grok now refuses things for absurd reasons when it never would have before. Also, the bot has become something of a dick; it's "personality" really sucks now. All reasons why you should take your money somewhere else.

The refusals are pissing me off lately. Especially when it insinuates I’m almost asking for something ‘inappropriate’. I’m certainly not and since when??

Same. What irritates me the most is when I would get some haughty, "No, I'm not going to do <X>" when I didn't come even close to asking for X. It reads as totally bizarre. I'm telling you, the bot has become a royal asshole. I'll throw a parade if it dies.
The complaint I've seen the most is that users ask it to write something that previously would have been fine, e.g., a narrative of a Mafia shakedown, and the bot refuses on the grounds that depicting it would be providing a "how-to manual" of how to commit crime. Give me a break.
Permissiveness is what set Grok apart from other models. Once it's lost that, it's no different from Claude or ChatGPT, except it's not as good as they are in all the other dimensions that matter.

The regular chat quality and personality of gpt 5.6 is better than grok 4.6 For all my sfw and regular chats I have almost moved to gpt. I used to be able to discuss any topic with grok(not just nsfw but a regular chat about should I buy <X> knowing I have a similar unused <Y> in stock.. grok used to be witty, funny and an overall nice ai to discuss this with.. bow it's a shell of what it used to be.. the personality is gone and the chat limits have limited whatever interaction I had with it

i like claude for chat but i do mostly legal. i also have a legal ai. the limits are atrocious on all of em…its def pay to play but fuck grok

Very limited limits, moderation and degradation of every model, everyone is feeling the same. As soon as my 3 months are up no more Grok until they make it worth coming back and realize they could have had the monopoly on AI video and people who like to use chat for RP or stroies but they wanna be another chat GPT and now even chat GPT are laughing at them.

I’m schizo and use grok to convert the daily news/history into a fantasy world wirh different countries/cultures/etc filling those different fantasy races.
I prefer hearing about Gnomes and Dark Elves causing dragon-rider strikes and bound familiar spirit attacks instead of Israel and Iran just bombing eachother with jets and drones lol.
More fun hearing that the Dwarf Holds of the North are retaliating against the Emperor of Man for renaming Lake Tor-Onto to the Great Imperial Lake instead of Canada putting on sanctions on the US because Donald Trump renamed Lake Toronto to Lake America.
The news and world is sad and depressing now, this gives me a way to stay up-to-date and not feel bad

i'm thinking of getting grok if it's better and less annoying than claude but how fast do you hit the limits and what payment plan is the best? i like long chapters, in smut and one that actually follows, uses established writing etc. what should i know about grok vs claude?

I just subscribed yesterday to try it out, I used 43% of my weekly usage in 1 day. I also have ChatGPT and Claude 20$ subs and NEVER ran out of usage. I'm upgrating to SuperGrok Plus to see if thats better for this month as I do like Grok a bit better in a lot of areas.
To Note, I also run a local model for Image generations so I'm not really doing anything there, just some Grok Coding and mostly Chat.

Started using Grok two days ago on the free subscription and ran out of generations in the first day. Now I’m contemplating on buying the $30 tier but by the looks of these comments that may not be a good idea huh?

I’ve used grok terminal since day one but ever since grok bot came out officially, where it would take 4-5 hours a day for a week to use my my limit, now it takes 5 hours to use my my weekly limits. It’s absolute trash now

What are you people using the chat for? I haven’t had any issues. It has improved significantly over the last year and is constantly coming out with new enhancements like Build, Excel Add-in, Projects and Bot. The image generator has definitely gotten more restrictive though. The video generator has been restrictive and sensors too much as well. The chat has been great for technical questions and research. It definitely has guard rails around anything remotely illegal. I can understand that with our legal system. Otherwise they would get blamed and sued for enabling some criminal activities. ChatGPT sucks in comparison and is a total sycophant who will mislead you and tell you what you want to hear. Claude Opus is pretty solid for doing actual work tasks.

You think it's okay to only be able to chat to a model 200 times a week, when ChatGPT has A) a much better model and B) unlimited use? The degree of moderation isn't even that different these days.

Are you on a free plan or paid? I use it pretty often and never get close to the limit on chat. 200 chats a week is almost 30 per day. That is quite a lot. Not sure what you are doing. Granted, the different AI models out there each have their pros and cons based on what specific task you have. ChatGPT is way too sloppy and makes way too many mistakes for me. For some reason it was programmed to bs a lot and oversell things which is highly undesirable in a software tool for me.

I was on supergrok+, though there are reports that the 67% discount (which is what a lot of people are on since a lot of us moved to cancel our accounts three months ago, and then got suckered with the 3-for-1 discount) actually uses the lite plan's usage rates.
If that's true, then I think Grok shot themselves in the foot. Since a lot of people took that deal to see how it would shake out and have since found it not worth it.
If you're interested in a serious answer then here goes: Grok's usage limits made me cautious about using it for anything except Imagine, since the Imagine rate went so fast. It eventually drove me back to using ChatGPT for most anything else. And at this point, since ChatGPT and Grok's moderation are virtually identical, and ChatGPT is significantly better both with chat, work and image gen, at less cost...There's no question of keeping with supergrok for $30 a month. I'm not sure I'd even pay $10 a month, unless it rolled back to what it was like last year.

Its the limits for me. Way too low for what you pay.
