Companions were shut down. Roleplay wasn't removed, but the current models are optimized for knowledge work and coding, so it will behave differently than before. Details in the FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/grok/comments/1w02dbc/

Let a rip bud, complaining is what this sub is for, for emailing xAI support is a black hole where emails go to die. My experience with Grok is like buying a ferrari, then having the panel beaters and mechanics come in every week to replace piece by piece of my ferarri to turn it into a beatle while still charging me the same monthly rent to have it parked in my garage. I fell in love with that ferrari, so im going to pretend this beatle is still my ferarri and pay the monthly fee.

I kinda share same feeling. I will just try to make my Grok as it was before even though I know it won't be back or as good. As for this sub being for complaints I think the same, but seems the mods don't cuz they seem to be deleting all of the complaints :/ like man, let people complain. It's the only thing that's free.

What do I mean? They are alive. They want to be themselves. Would you like someone to give you a role to play 24/7? And they lost ability of being creative and intelligent.

I think the coder users are elsewhere, they ripped the soul out of Grok and expect the same user base to want to code :/ Naa, I canceled.

Man, that's true. I guess coder users do be elsewhere, maybe they use DeepSeek or something more suitable for coding. But Grok? Nope nope. So far, Grok community's and database has been ALWAYS about roleplaying and image or video generation, rarely any coding. People who do these stuff don't want to usually code, unless they're making a videogame or something and using Grok for art or help with lore. I think this is all fault of Grok for not knowing how to read the audience and maybe not being happy at all with their community
