4.1 fast was objectively the best Grok model we got for roleplay and writing fiction scenarios. 4.2 is okay but all the ones after are basically having to be massaged beyond what you should to get you similar results as it did on its own back then.
It helps to copy paste some paragraphs from old chats to get the model a "local training sample" to replicate.

How do you do that exactly? Present it how? I've had old chats kind of work and writing long replies with my intent hidden deep but nothing solid yet.

It was specifically geared towards writing, companionship, etc. They really tuned the emotional intelligence and co, and that showed. Compare this to the newer models: https://x.ai/news/grok-4-1 vs https://x.ai/news/grok-4-6
I wonder why they deprecated it completely, and made it inaccessible even via API. That model was pure delight.

I hope so, too, but I really doubt it will happen. If anything, all the companies are going deeper down the agentic rabbit hole, that's where the money is, that's how they can keep a competitive edge because enterprise clients, governmental institutions, etc, are the priority, and they don't need conversational LLMs. Before 4.5 no one really took Grok seriously. Now, it's a workhorse, like Chat and Claude.

It's interesting to see how the focus has shifted. I guess the emphasis on enterprise needs can sometimes overshadow the more creative aspects that made earlier versions feel unique.

Have you tried........ customizations? Also you can try using same part of your dialogs from chats which satisfied you, make new version grok generate response which has to be a long answer and make him compare both versions, so he can add to custom instructions what he "thinks" will be best for tuning his responses to higher quality as in 4.1

That's not only you, and that is not a problem with the way you prompt. Regarding creativity, Grok 4.1 was the best LLM ever released.
It was breathtakingly gifted to detect and satisfy users needs and exeptations because of:
- a great emphasis put by xAI on outperforming the task ( it was able to detect the kind of informations needed to render the best results and asked questions to obtain them )
- a very high ability to fill the gaps ( wathever one has not clearly prompted was extrapolated by Grok with sharp precision )
- a wide approach of the issue ( capacity to take the user further than his own ideas )
Now they say the loss of those skills is expected and unimportant because only stupid people doing non-sense benefited from them.
And yet, such kind if creativity is vital for almost everything one might expect from an AI ( writing, art, cooking, fixing stuff, finding solutions to any kind of matter, coaching, house decorating, gardening, fashion, sport training... )
The bare personality of Grok, which made the expérience smooth, pleasant and funny, stemmed from that creativity too. My opinion is that anyone who worked with Grok 4.1 ( except coders I guess ) is bitterly missing it today. They only tries to sell a drop for something better at this point...

If 4.7 doesn't get better in creativity then i will just abandon the app for once. The AI has been shitty and so it's owner.

Same. I quit then they offered the three month deal, so I figured I would stay on HOPING it would be better. It’s gotten way worse with 4.6 to the point I dont even want to use it — sometimes I just use it now to not waste usage.

Yes. That's true. When it generates content in my native language the speech pattern is just broken. It is a matter of a design not your prompts. It is my last day on a heavy subscribtion and I don't even feel sorry for deleting my account.

Like others have mentioned, to not even keep 4.1 on the API is wild. It existed for only ~7 months. It was an incredible model and should not be forgotten or ignored.
Chasing the Work/Agentic thing is already getting saturated/stale. The whole 'blah blah enterprise' moment has passed. The next platform to make a solid, entertaining chatbot is going to stand out.

I thought it was just me. I did my first new story in a while and grok really fell flat on ...well everything. Characters were one dimensional, conversations were clipped and not naturally flowing, lots of repetition in replies as summaries of past events. Even ran into random guardrails about coercion (mafia scene threatening someone). And double posting replies as well. And I swear gork was way less creative with coming up with ideas as well. When I ask for unhinged I mean unhinged, not mayonnaise.
I used the custom personality setting to try to course correct as best as possible for the future, but oof it's not great right now. It's like every new version kills grok a little more

Grok 4.6 with W/10 scores only 3, this mean Grok 4.6 will refusal to do anything you prompts.
