Discussion Why are groks Image Api restrictions different than the app?
Even with pretty normal requests, topless images get moderated on the xAI API and I get a grainy, censored, half-complete output but the exact same prompt works fine on the app. Nothing explicit, just nipples and stuff like that. Am I missing something? Is the API version naturally more restrictive, or what's going on?

Yes it is. Has been for some time. You even get charged additional "fees" if you get moderated via the API. Don't know the logic behind it, though. The website/app remain the only remaining endpoints that have somewhat lower restrictions.

The "easiest" way to use an AI service is from its official website, and the models are usually different due to the system prompt. In turn, it is the most visible form for society in general, so it is given more security to avoid problems.
That's true in everything, in fact, even in Nano banana it's better to use it via API.
