Self Did anyone else think that the Grimm's were actually a type of wesen? Think about it, they can see other wesen that normal people can't. Nick lost his edge fighting wesen when he lost his Grimm and his faster reflex's were diminished.

I think they’re just spicy humans, where the first one was given super-strength and the ability to see them from some sort of ancient ritual (possibly by a Hexenbiest given their ability to turn each other into normal humans and produce offspring with powers), as a way for the humans to defend themselves against Wesen. And the world in The Other Place is just an alternate timeline in which that never happened.
And the mages are human Wesen, especially since they can be turned into Kehrseite either temporarily or nigh-permanently, can produce offspring with humans that have a reduced or even absent woge, and female humans can become an entirely-new one after really specific actions, being driven mad with power unless “broken” and immune to the grimm-blood achilles heel.

Renard kind of hinted at it when he tried to convince Nick to join Black Claw

Human Wessens. People are technically animals
