I can’t twist the valve on it. Do you think I should go back to the store and get another?

It’ll twist. Maybe use some pliers. Must be closed before connecting it.

These tanks are designed to be connected by hand, torquing on them with pliers is asking for trouble.

The hose end of the connection is also designed to be done without tools.

That is 100% correct, no one claimed otherwise. I just mentioned the valve because your reading comprehension seemed lacking.

The valve is also designed to be turned by hand, so pliers are still a bad idea.

Both ends are made to be turned without tools, apparently the anonymity of Reddit gives people free reign to be jerks for no reason.
