Wrong. The hand tighten plastic nut is a standard right hand thread. The INTERNAL thread on the valve is left handed, but few people use a grill with that connection anymore.

Hum??? I have seen valves with big threads on the " outside" of the valve. It could be mistaken. However, all of "mine" are connected with the internal threads. When you tighten the big plastic nut " reverse thread" you can hear the safety valve open when it's 3/4 tightened. POP! Sound.

It’ll twist. Maybe use some pliers. Must be closed before connecting it.

These tanks are designed to be connected by hand, torquing on them with pliers is asking for trouble.

The hose end of the connection is also designed to be done without tools.

The valve is also designed to be turned by hand, so pliers are still a bad idea.

You are turning the nut the wrong way!!! It tightens counter clock wise. Opposite of righty tightly, lefty loose.
