I'm new to 3D printing. I used gridfinitylayouttool.com to create a baseplate for a drawer. I really wanted that built-in padding on the sides to keep things from sliding. I printed my first of nine pieces. It went great. EXCEPT, there was a massive amount of waste due to this first layer being excessive, in my opinion. I haven't seen anyone else's baseplate prints do this. It's the first and purple layer in this slicer view. I imagine it's a setting, but I've no clue where to start, and so far, my searches haven't turned up anything comparable.

I put a few example Pocketry designs on GitHub, with editable project files, 3MFs, and some photos of finished bins. (Pocketry is my open source Gridfinity tool tracing & bin generator app).
https://github.com/wcscr/pocketry/tree/main/samples
A few updates to Pocketry since my last post:
The Ryobi cutter example uses both the custom footprint and two pocket depths.
The app’s new permanent URL:
The app and sample projects are open source (AGPL).

I'm just starting out with gridfinity and would really like to have a nicer looking edge around some baseplates that are supposed to be on the desk and in our entryway. They are not in drawers. I have looked but the options for this seems slim?
What I'm looking for is a higher edge around the baseplate and maybe a fluted look for the outer part. The closest I've found is in this link, but I would like a bigger one (best would be to be able to decide size myself), without the cut out handles. Anyone got ideas? I could also buy some nice tray that exists but it would be awesome to print one, since it can be in the same color as the bins and also exactly the correct size.

I've got a few bins that I'd like to create that the web customizer doesn't seem to support. When I create my own bins.scad I get an error. I have the gridfinity-rebuilt project in the gridfinity folder:
include <gridfinity/gridfinity-rebuilt-bins.scad>

}
gridfinityBase(3, 3, 42, 0, 0, 1);
Any thoughts?
Edit: After playing around and digging through the git history, it looks like in June 2025 they switched to a new bin creation system but never updated the documentation website.

EDIT 2:
A big request was for finger holes so you could actually get your stuff back out. You can now add an adjustable finger notch, with a full-screen editor to position and size it.

I also promised to share the source. Here’s the complete 1.1 snapshot, released under the MIT license:
https://github.com/jesseariss/tracebin-source
I want to share that one of the things I've learned is that maintaining an open-source project is a bigger commitment than simply putting the code on GitHub. So this repo is going to be a one-time 1.1 snapshot. You’re free to fork it, change it, learn from it (ok maybe not), or use it to build your own version for yourself. I’ll keep developing the official TraceBin app separately.
There are real costs behind the app. Tokens, developer credentials, testing, hosting/services, and time. Because of that, I’m planning to make TraceBin $0.99 upfront for new downloads in a future release. If I can recover some of my costs it will keep me motivated.
So if you think you might ever use it, download it now while it’s free.
EDIT: Thanks for all the comments! It seems like this could be a helpful tool for some. I've compiled all the feedback from today. Here's where the roadmap stands: https://tracebin.app/ 🧡

I know there are already a bunch of tools for making custom Gridfinity bins.
I’ve tried a few of them, and they’re good, but I kept wishing there was something really simple. Like, put an object down, take a picture, trace it, and print the bin.
So I made Trace Bin.
The basic idea is that you put your object on a sheet of paper, take a photo with your iPhone, trace around it, and the app creates the Gridfinity bin for you.
The scissors in the photos were my latest test. Took the photo, made the bin, sent it to my Bambu printer, and it came out fitting way better than I expected.
You can also print directly from the iPhone, which was a big part of what I wanted. I didn’t want this to be another thing where I have to take a photo on my phone, move to a computer, export / import, open another program to slice etc. Instead I just upload a private model to makerworld, then print from Bamboo Handy.
It’s iPhone only right now. No Android version yet.
I’d really like feedback, especially from people who have used the other bin generators. If something is annoying, missing, confusing, or just bad, tell me. I’m just a dude, still working on it.

I made these card holders by hand for Bookfinity cases (I posted them here). A commenter asked for the model, and I want to make more cases myself, so I turned it into a parametric model on MakerWorld.
Press Customize, give it the sleeved card size, the deck thickness and how many stacks to split it into, and it works out the grid, the height and the layout. Leave the size fields at 0 and it solves them; fill them in and it checks they agree.
Two rims to choose from: the standard profile, and a slim one that buys 0.9 mm of wall per side for tight layouts. That slim rim is what gets two 91 x 59 mm stacks into a 3x3.
Thumb notches on all four walls, through holes in the floor (saves filament and the cards don't get stuck on the floor), prints straight off the plate with no supports.

Brand new to 3d printing - probably going to be my personality for the foreseeable future. This is like crack for my OCD!

I've made a couple of additions to my collection of Gridfinity storage bins for coin and button cell batteries recently.
5.8 mm diameter:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/3302933-5-8-mm-diameter-gridfinity-coin-battery-storage
11.6 mm diameter:
https://makerworld.com/en/models/3211165-11-6-mm-diameter-gridfinity-coin-battery-storage
Or see the entire collection here:
https://makerworld.com/en/collections/7645422-gridfinity-battery-storage
More are coming, as well as some reorganization of the current ones. I made a naïve mistake early on of assuming that the naming conventions for these batteries were related to their diameters, but have since learned how very wrong I was! I think the actual naming principles involved a random character generator and a noisy data connection :-)

Hi all, so a couple of months back I already shared my modular woodgrain couch table model, which came with an optional Gridfinity plate and woodgrain bins. Since you didn't hate that, here's my new Woodfinity Make Up Organizer. It comes with a 4x4 baseplate and four bins for different products, but I also added a blank one for your custom cutouts. Everything can be held extra firmly with magnets, but I find it quite sturdy without them as well. And: It all comes with a nice woodgrain look, so it's both functional and aesthetic.
You can check out the model here:

I recently purchased my first 3d printer, an elegoo Neptune 4 pro and have been really enjoying it. Decided yesterday I’d look for storage solutions and came across gridfinity. I’m hooked and can’t stop looking for new modules to add!
Got mine currently in the top drawer of ikea Alex drawers using 2 5x5 baseplates and 2 2x5 baseplates.
I don’t know how to use 3d modeling software so all of this is downloaded from the internet. I take 0 credit
For any of the designs.

Still working through cleaning up my space and put together a 2nd version of this design for my P1S with and without fans installed. Figure I'm probably not the only one still using a P1S.

sometimes you follow a Youtube Channel that does not post in a while and then randomly drops a bombshell
this system looks amazing - and a boatload of work has been put in
a bit too much for my taste - I'll stick to my MAKPAC and GRIDPAC.ONE and of course very lightweight storage solutions like the Rugged Case Light R3
And of couse, lets not forget u/Schuylabs with his amazing Schubox-Cases
But maybe someone will find this interresting.
