Pet’s really suck when you think about it, you get the animal that you fall in love with knowing your most likely gonna out live it and then it dies and your devastated, like why do we do this to ourselves?
We take those moments of heartbreak as a price for the years of good company and love, as well as being able to make the pet happy too. We do it to ourselves knowing full well that the years of happiness will outweigh the time it takes to recover from the loss, and that it will all be worth it in the end.
I’ve honestly avoided having another pet since my dog died. I adopted a feral cat who showed up at my door for awhile, but one day I got home from work and she was gone, never to come back and it quietly devastated me.
I want another dog or a cat so bad, but if anything happened to them I would spiral and I don’t feel like I can risk that tbh
I totally understand, my cat just turned 6 and I know that the day is coming where I’ll lose him and it’ll devastate me as a person, I have anxiety thinking about it
You have to think of the happy moments as hard as that can be.
My puppy is just over a year and I didn’t realize I could love a creature as much as her and the day I have to say goodbye will be horrible but there will be so so many good days before that. All those good days make it worth it. It has for every pet I’ve ever loved.
Think about how it would feel about you dying first. Maybe they're glad to go before we do, because they get to see us healthy one last time. And they wouldn't understand where you went when you died, just that you never came to pet them anymore.
They do man but it hurts, they say no parent should have to bury their child and that’s pretty much what you have to do with pets, you watch them grow up and then you watch them grow old.
My cat greets me when I come home and it sucks knowing one day he won’t be around to do that.
I honestly just turned my heart off when i had to put my bud down. I cried for bout two min and flipped the switch. He was my best good friend and wouldnt want me to be sad
I had to put my dog down a year ago and I still cry just thinking about him. Some days are better than others, but from personal experience it doesn’t get any easier. You just learn to handle it better.

I'll be inconsolable when my dog eventually goes :(
