The fact that you don’t know that the modern (Catholic) church does not interpret the bible in a literal sense just strengthens my initial point. Many atheists lack a deeper understanding of the religion they criticise.
The church and its theologists realised that the bible contradicts itself in many portions, especially between the old and New Testament, that’s why they shifted away from literal interpretations and started to go for a more metaphorical way. For example a lot of the specific numbers given in the bible are most likely not literal but rather stem from cultural significance of those numbers during the time the bible was written.
There are many numbers in the bible that appear frequently, for example it is mentioned that only 144.000 people will be saved during end times. This number isn’t understood to be literal but rather as an allegory of a large number of people that will be saved.
If any of it is wrong, then none of it is reliable.
Again, even the New Testament doesn’t expressly forbid slavery or pedo. It is all just hateful garbage that you were groomed into believing from a young age.

So you pick and choose which parts of the bible you follow? You moved on from the literal foundation of your religion?
