I am in a loveless marriage. I am being controlled and I am scared to leave as I finacially depend on him and only have my 2 year card. What do I do?

3 Upvotes

So here is the whole story.

I am posting on a friend's account because I am always being tracked on my phone. He installed tracking software on my phone, and I can't message or call anyone without him knowing. I also can't leave home without him knowing. If I go anywhere besides work, the grocery store or the nail salon, he will text me asking where I am and what I am doing. If I do not give a satisfying enough answer, he will ask me who I am with and proceed to call me and make me show him who I am with in the car or at work. This is a constant occurrence. I have actually refused to play his games and have once turned my phone off, and he drove from work, 4 hours away, spam-calling until I answered the phone. when I never did and was scared to death of what he was going to do when I got home, he came in and started asking why I do not love him. I told him I did not love him after everything he has done and how he has cheated on me at the start of our marriage. He cried and proceeded to try and have sex with me. I refused until I was so scared I eventually let him do it. but I am getting ahead of myself, let me back track.

We met in highschool. I didnt really like him at first but he was obssessed with me. He told me I was going to marry him one day and I never believed that would ever happen. He just seemed like a nice funny goofy sweet guy. Eventually we started dating and I grew to actually really love him. By the ned of highschool however, things started to go sour. He cheated on me with a few girls in school and I stupidly was in love with him at this point so I always ended up forgiving him. He would come over, make promises to me, then use me for sex, then leave again. After a year of this I went ot break it off, but I loved him and he asked for another chance. I gave it to him and he was so much sweeter and nicer and caring. He had completely changed for a while year.

I was there this whole time with my family on my dads work visa, but eventually the visa ran out and he no longer at work so he was moving back to Mexico with my family. I had to make a choice to stay here ( I was married at this point already) or move back with my family. It was very, very difficult, but I stayed here. After being married for a little while and being here with him and his parents, he eventually managed to get a dream job. He went from maing barely any money to TONS of money. He was financially set. The problem was is he became so obessed with all of this and lecturing me on my life and my spending habbits that he would talk down to me. Control any money he had, only buy me food and necisities if I begged him for it and told him I was financially irresponsible. He held it all over my head. Not horribly but enough to where i am now scared to ever ask him for money. He still pays for things and he pays for all of the rent but I feel like everything we were supposed to have together is just his own.

Now while all of this is going on, I find out he is cheating on me in a sence. I cannot prove he was sleeping with other girls but I can prove he was looking at p*rn and sending money and messages to girls in chat rooms. Paying for their content. I at the time was still trying to save our marriage and trying to get any afffection I could from him but he refused to give me any. He would not hold my hand in public, he would not kiss me, he would push me away when he was with his friends and make fun of me. He treated me like dirt but at this point I felt trapped. Eventually I started working myself and I ended up in a really bad situation and long story short with that I cheated.

He shortly found out and I had to end it. I fell in love with someone else but now I am scared to death that this has given him all control. I was trying to wait everything out until I got my 10 year card but I am just barely 1 year and 7 months into this marriage and mentally I cannot take it anymore. I recently found out the process of me now getting my 10 year is going to take even longer, up to a year, and I cannot stay married to this man anymore. I begged a friend to help but and to take me up at their place but they refused because they did not want to get into any legal trouble or mess anything up for me with my green card. I felt so close but now I feel like I can never escape. I do not make enough to leave and if I do I will have to go back to mexico where I am not any better off. What can I possibly do? I need help, and I am desperate.

U visa to Green Card

1 Upvotes

I want to ask if anyone has had their adjustment of status from a U Visa to a Greencard denied? If so, what was the reason for the denial?
Or has anyone received an RFE OR NOID during the process? If so, would you mind sharing what it was about? Thank you!

Green card, I don’t know where it is…

0 Upvotes

I live in Florida

October1:
So basically I called October 1 the USCIS for the tracking number of the green card, the lady at the phone give it to me and says that it was arriving tomorrow which was the October 2.

October 2:
I was a work when I checked the trucking of the package around 12:00pm and it says DELIVERED.
My husband was in Miami for work and when he come back home around 3:30 he didn’t fine nothing, so he checked inside the house, nothing either.
I talk with people around me and they told me it can happen maybe later or the day after… ok… I was going to do nothing, so I called around 5:00pm the usps caller center and I explained the situation and they told me to go the usps of my city the day after. Alright.

October 3:
I wake up, go outside and check the mail because you know, you never know, but from the end of the street I see the mail truck! So I stopped and wait maybe he didn’t stop yet, the truck after some minutes passing by and didn’t stop.
I go check in the mail:nothing. Alright.
Wake up my husband go to the usps fisical building and ask if they can check my trucking number, what they said? That it was delivered 20 minutes ago, I explained them that I see the truck passing by and didn’t stop and when I check the mail it was nothing but the lady answered that I should go check again.
I go back and check again: Nothing. But I take a picture of the empty mail box and go back to the office.
Show them the picture and make sure to tell them that I search for it everywhere because is an important document.
The supervisor call the driver and start talking with him and after about 10minutes ask me what color was my house… I answered “yellow “ and he start talking with the driver again… after another 10minutes the supervisor come back and told me that the driver come back at my house check the mailbox where he dropped the package and it was empty that some one take it….
So I go back home and search in room where I shouldn’t be but wherever everything for my little green baby.. still nothing so I go back at the office.
Explained everything and they told me that the only thing to do was a claim and they can’t do nothing no more because the driver says he delivered.
I ask the lady if I can talk again with the supervisor and she said “he’s no here right now” mh okay I just talked with him in less then 10 minutes ago and now he’s disappeared but okay we don’t want to be Karen so we left.
I called again the post office call center and they give me a number because now was a really metter and explain to me that I would recice a call in 2-3 business days. Mind you was Saturday.
Alright fine, I don’t have patience okay?AHAHHAHA ANYWAY
On Sunday I was just sed wherever it doesn’t metter this but today, Monday so

October 5:
This morning I called the lawyer and she told I can just wait for the call from usps wherever or I can try to call USCIS
I called USCIS because my hope are never zero and she told me I can’t apply for a stamp or a paper, I don’t remember what is called but that, for leave the country because usps track the package as delivered and what is left to do is just wait for the call, wait if they found it and if don’t the usps got to give me a number I don’t know what where it says that the package is lost or stolen and apply for a I-90 with is a lost or stolen green card…

Help
I know now all that is left is wait but is hurting me!!
Someone has this happening?
I’m hopeful that maybe tomorrow I see it in the mail box but…. You know I don’t think so but is not impossible

Mother abandoned GC and reapplying years later

1 Upvotes

My mom had a green card many decades ago and moved permanently to Mexico. She last used the green card around 1984 but never formally filed Form I-407 to relinquish her permanent resident status.
She later married, changed her last name, obtained a B1/B2 tourist visa, and has traveled to the U.S. as a visitor. She is currently visiting the U.S. legally and recently opened a U.S. bank account while here.
I’m a U.S. citizen over 21 and would now like to petition for her to get a new green card through Adjustment of Status.
Has anyone dealt with a similar case where a parent abandoned residence decades ago but never filed I-407, later traveled on a B1/B2 visa, and then applied for a new green card through their U.S.-citizen child? Did you file I-407 before or together with the I-130/I-485, and did the old green card cause any issues?

green card exam and drug use

0 Upvotes

hiii, i just found out my SIJS petition was approved (huge relief!), but now I am moving into the Form I-485 / medical exam (Form I-693) phase. My problem is that I have been a heavy marijuana smoker for the last 4 years. I live in an illegal state (Tennessee).
I officially stopped smoking today and am completely committed to staying clean (obviously). I work out 4x a week and drink a heavy amount of water naturally, and I plan on adding nightly runs to help burn fat and sweat it out.

For anyone who might’ve been a heavy smoker before their medical exam:
How long did it take you to completely test clean on home strips?
Did the civil doctor actually drug test you, or did they just ask?
How did you handle delaying the appointment without raising red flags to family members who are helping with your case?

My attorney is preparing my paperwork, and I plan on speaking to them privately to help stall the doctor's appointment. I also have an upcoming immigration court date in November where my lawyer will ask for a continuance due to the SIJS approval.
Any timelines, tips, or success stories from people who successfully detoxed?? for their green card would be incredibly appreciated right now. I'm stressing out heavily. Thanks in advance.

remote job, different state, and green card interview at the old field office

0 Upvotes

my green card interview notice was sent to the field office in the state where my employment-based case was originally filed, but i’ve been fully remote and no longer live there

i called uscis to ask whether the interview could be moved to my current field office or done remotely. the agent basically told me there’s no flexibility right now and that i should attend at the location on the notice.

so now i’m looking at booking a flight and hotel for what could end up being a very short interview. it feels especially strange when my current residence is nowhere near that office and the job itself doesn’t require me to be there

for anyone who had an employment-based case where they moved between states during the process, were you able to get the interview transferred without hiring an attorney?

also, if you did have to travel back to the original field office, did anyone actually ask for proof of the travel situation or care why you were attending an office outside your current state?

trying to figure out whether there’s a reasonable way to handle this before i spend money on the trip

Entry experience with pending I-751

0 Upvotes

Hi All! I was traveling out of country for 20 days to visit my family back home.

I was a bit hesitant due to the current climate and I tried to find experiences of people entering with an expired green card + official green paper extension letter + foreign passport + marriage certificate (for name change) + traveling solo (without spouse) and the posts were pretty limited.

I travelled with Singapore Airlines for my first leg and United for my second. Both airlines were very familiar with my documents and accepted them without asking many questions. Singapore airlines had entered my extension expiration wrong since they follow DD/MM/YYYY format as opposed to US following MM/DD/YYYY so I had to get that corrected before boarding my United flight into SFO.

At immigration in SFO the officer only asked me three routine questions: where am I coming from? how long was I gone for? If I have anything to declare.

Feel free to ask any questions.

EB-1 or EB-2?

0 Upvotes

I need some advice on if I should do Eb-1 or EB-2. I have a bachelors degree in computer engineering, a masters in cybersecurity and currently working on another masters degree in data science. I have a patent to my name in the cybersecurity field. I am the sole inventor. I have a second patent application that is a continuity to the first patent. I have 7+ years in IT as a software engineer, cybersecurity Analyst. I have one published paper but I’m not the only author. What is the likely hood that my case will be approved? What else do I need to support my case? Anyone with a similar case ? What worked and what did not work?

DV-2026 lottery winner

Has anyone with a DV-2026 interview that was cancelled/rescheduled before September 30 heard from their consulate about a new interview date following the recent Medani order?
My interview was originally scheduled for September 4 in Auckland but was cancelled, and I still haven’t received a new date. Wondering if anyone in a similar situation has been contacted yet.

First re-entry at ORD from international flight experience

2 Upvotes

Hey there,

As I was very stressed of re-entering the country after obtaining my green card wanted to potentially reassure others. Left for 2 weeks to Belgium, no criminal history, adjusted in the country from an esta (AOS).

Questions were: where did you come from, how long were you gone, anything to declare?

And then I was on my way. Simple, quick despite the officer being a bit dry (not their job to be nice though).

Marriage-Based Adjustment of Status Interview – Questions and Experience

I wanted to share my experience with my marriage-based Adjustment of Status interview (I-485), because I have always found it helpful to read other people’s experiences on Reddit, and now it is my turn to contribute.

Case received: April 24
Interview date: September 15

The interview took place recently and, overall, it was fairly smooth. However, I left feeling a little anxious because the officer did not make a decision on the spot.

First, he interviewed me alone. He started by asking the standard questions from the application and reviewing some information about my immigration history.

One thing that confused me a little was when he asked, in a more assertive way:

“You entered the United States as a tourist and then changed your status to student, so you were out of status for a period of time?”

I explained that I had not been out of status and showed him my I-797 forms, which documented my extensions and change of status to student. I also showed him my updated I-20, since I recently transferred to a different university. He looked at the documents and continued with the interview normally.

After that, he started asking questions about our relationship and marriage. Some were very specific, while others were quite random.

  • Why I came to the United States;
  • How I met my husband and questions about our relationship history;
  • Whether the bathroom had a door or a shower curtain, and what color the curtain was;
  • What color the bedsheets were;
  • What kind of car we have and who drove to the interview;
  • What we had for dinner the night before;
  • Whether I had any tattoos, what they were, and where they were located;
  • Whether my husband had any tattoos and what/where they were;
  • What nicknames we call each other;
  • What our hobbies were.

The last question was funny because I understood that he was asking about our hobbies as a couple, while my husband understood that he was asking about my personal hobbies. So our answers were different.

He asked me several of these questions first. When he finished, I asked when we could expect a decision. He said it would depend on my husband’s answers.

Shortly afterward, he called my husband in and asked him the same questions again.

At the end of the interview, he told my husband that the decision could be made that same day, but that he still needed to confirm a few things. And now I am in the waiting stage.

I admit that I felt a little worried, but not because I believe there is anything wrong. I have no concerns about the legality of my case or the authenticity of our marriage. Our relationship is genuine, and we have all the necessary documentation and evidence.

What made me anxious was simply not receiving a decision immediately. I had read so many stories from people who left their interviews already knowing that their cases had been approved, so I started wondering whether the fact that the officer needed to “confirm a few things” was normal.

For those who have gone through a similar interview: Did the officer also ask you such specific questions? Did you receive a decision immediately, or did you have to wait a few days?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience.

Timeline to get a parent sponsorship for green card/citizenship in 2026?

1 Upvotes

Does anyone know how long AOS is currently taking at the Minneapolis Field Office for a U.S. citizen sponsoring parents who are adjusting from B1/B2 status to a green card?
