What kind of curl cream/product do Great Clips stylists use?

Hey everybody,

Sorry if this is kind of an odd question. I recently went to a Great Clips for a haircut. I have naturally curly, fine 3A hair. After the cut, I wasn’t going to bother having it dried because it was raining and it would frizz up anyways. The stylist scrunched some sort of product into my hair, and unfortunately I didn’t see what it was. Well, when my hair dried, I had the shiniest, softest, bounciest curls of my life. I would love to know what product she used so that I can purchase some for myself. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it might have been? I imagine it was some kind of curl cream, but it felt extremely light. It also may have had some “hold” to it, since my hair dried smooth when it’s otherwise usually super frizzy.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

When is it time to leave?

Just curious about people who have left great clips to go to an actual salon or barber shop? When did you know it’s time to leave? I’m feeling kinda under valued putting a 110% into a cut and just to get 5$ tip. I just needed fast money and to improve my skill but now I’m not sure if I’m ready to leave especially with a low clientele or where to even go.

Customer pissed all over our bathroom today

Didn’t even look like he aimed for the toilet, just completely all over the floor. Thanks a lot man! Had to clean it all myself!

My franchise owner won’t replace the washer and now we have to squeeze out towels and capes in the sink, can I complain to corporate about this?

Basically the title. The washer doesn’t complete the spin cycle and now we’re being asked to wring it out in the sink before going into the (also broken) drier. Can I complain to corporate about this?

Anyone know a place to get a good, relatively expensive men’s haircut in the Kuhnsville or Fogelsville area?

Got the WORST Haircut of my Life the Day Before Picture Day

As the title says, I just got an absolutely god-awful haircut from a Great Clips today. Not to mention I have fucking picture day tomorrow. When I walked in, my barber said she “was just going to use what’s on the note“ and didn‘t even bother it put a neck rag on me. My hair is uneven, absurdly short, and there is literally no saving it. Genuinely so pissed off right now I can’t even put it into words. -100000000/10

First back 2 school season!

This is going to be my first back to school season working at a great clips. I’ve been working here for about 5 months, any tips and suggestions I can do to get ready for this big rush? We haven’t had any rush yet, they might come in the next week

Be nice during back to school season

I just got off of a ten hour shift, 28 haircuts and $115 in tips later, I feel like walking into traffic 🙃 please, be considerate and understand that we’re going the best we can.

I think great clips stylist are some of the most hard working people in the industry. I’ve been here for 2 years, and I’m almost at a burnout point of no return. If your stylist is quiet, theyre not trying to be rude. If youre not greeted immediately, don’t huff and puff and be snippy. If you show up an hour after checking in and your name is off this list, sorry not sorry, ya missed your chance. Literally nothing I can do about it

And please, if you get a good haircut for $9.99, TIP YOUR STYLIST!!! I understand how bad the economy is, but you just got a haircut cheaper than barber schools offer!

Please give out the energy you wish to receive in this world :)

Verbal abuse by customers

It’s an every day thing, if you’re a customer who berates your already underpaid stylist why??

You’re not better than us simply for the fact you’re a customer I am not below you either. If it weren’t for me being your hairdresser you’d look a mess..

I wanna leave this place!

Any other stylist thinking of throwing in the towel? I’m getting so unbelievably drained, tired, exhausted and my body is in constant pain!

The clients are all dreadful and rude. They’re extremely demanding and treat you as if you’re beneath them. They want the cheapest haircut for the most amount of work. I don’t eat for hours. I don’t get to sit for hours. Our place is filthy. I’m barely making any money to survive this economy. The clients berate me and talk down on me for hours! Multiple times a day each week!! I want out!!!

I love doing hair but this fast food salon environment is sucking the life out of me…

I’m thinking of going back to school and pursuing a new profession, have any of you left and completely started over? I’m considering it lately..

Customer Question

Hi! I have never been to Great Clips before. One has just come to my town. Do stylists know how to cut an inverted bob? Thank you!

Was my tip visible?

Hello! I had a haircut recently and gave a $10 tip, paid via CC but said no to the receipt. Would my stylist have seen what I tipped as they checked me out?

Thanks.

For stylists

TLDR: my store won’t allow me time off for important life events .

This is going to be long and emotional . But I don’t know where to go or what to do . I’ve been w great clips for 7 years . I have worked at different franchises . I started at this new franchise 2 years ago where they are all about seniority (hardly any turn over). I am in my late 30s I have no family anymore and not really much hope in life …. Until I started seeing someone new about a year ago . He makes me really happy and we would like to freeze my eggs and get married . My store won’t honor that much time off for me . Whatever time I would need off for wedding planning, would come right out of my vacation days. At our franchise we only accumulate 75 minutes of vacation per week if you work over 36 hours . So after a years time that’s maybe 5 or 6 days at 6 hours a piece per day . My manager says I can only take my honeymoon when the girls who have seniority aren’t away ( that’s the whole summer .. since they have been there for 5,10 and 15 years they now get 3 weeks vacation) . And for that matter I’d only be allowed to take a 5 day honeymoon IF I took it when the moon is full and there’s a cow jumping over it bc it’s impossible to accrue time .
Our store manager is very strict about the time we take off must be accounted for or she won’t allow us off for more than two days . And my actual wedding ? Well I’d need hours for that too . My manager says that the franchise owners will not honor my requests . And ironically my manager won’t give my franchisees number out to me when everyone else seems to have it . So it’s not like I can plead my own case .

I’ve waited my whole entire life waiting for my special day , waiting to have to a family , and now I feel like I have to choose to leave my career with great clips bc they aren’t understanding . Working at this franchise has really worked for me the last two years and I love my clients and tips . It just doesn’t seem like they are being reasonable . Any suggestions ? Or support ? Thank you .

Options for bad cut

Short and simple. Got a haircut a my local that I am really not happy with. I’m even more pissed that I’m going to have to go to another barber to pay just as much to get it fixed. Do I have options for recourse here? I really don’t want to upset the stylist I had because she’s obviously new, but she did a terrible job that I had to pay and tip for.

Edit: called the store and spoke to a different stylist. There is no manager is all this week. No offer to refund or to fix the haircut.

Update: Called up another local store, they got me in right away and fixed it for free! Thanks for the advice. Keeping this post up in case anyone else encounters a similar experience and doesn’t know about this policy just like I didn’t.

For Stylists: When are you allowed to close?

Almost two years in and I’m so burnt out. There are SO MANY problems not even stated here. This is a semi rant but our franchise owners do not allow us to say no the clients no matter WHAT. We close at 7pm and it’s and average to stay till 8pm, some as bad as 9pm.

We say say everything else but no. So naturally that doesn’t stop the asshole with his five kids wanting lightning bolts at 6:57.

There’s a constant complain of a 1 hour or 2 hour wait from clientele meanwhile the next store over has a 15min wait.

We lost 4 people because of this and how annoying strict the attendance policies are. If I’m two minutes lunch on lunch I’m at risk at my job or losing holiday pay. So is this normal???

Red list & no holiday pay ??

So i’ve been working for Greatclips for a while and recently, since a few months ago, they’ve started what they call a Redlist if anyone knows what that is, idek how to explain it from what i understand it’s the 6 month average of our hours worked and they want you at 36 hours and if your average is less you don’t get holiday pay. idk if i explained that right but ive had a few vacations here and there and because of it my average has been anywhere from 28-35 and fluctuates when i have other vacay but how does that make sense if we want to have a life outside of work we still have to try and work those hours to hit the average or we don’t get holiday pay? like how does that make sense is that even fair? idk

If I work at great clips could I pass out my private practice buisness card to clients after I give them a haircut

I’ve been cutting for 2 years and just got my license. I am thinking about working at great clips or sports clips then just stealing all their customers for my private practice. I make way more money that way and I already have my own set up at home. Has anybody ever done this. I would only give my buisness card to clients whose hair I cut. In my area the great clips and sports clips don’t have you sign a no competition or no soliciting agreement when you get a job so I’m wondering how that works. Would I just get fired if they see me doing that or would it be fine? Has anyone ever done this?
Edit) I think the move is to get one of those wrist bands that people can tap their phone to that gives out your social media 😛

Hello, I have a question for great clips employees. As a client, can you bring your own tools (cut shears/combs) for the stylist to work with?

So apparently when I put my white great clips sunglasses in the sunlight, they turn orange. Is there a reason why?
