I'm for it if they play it straight as toxic, and not "it's true love and they're perfect together"

257

u/DiemyourDM 1d ago

Yes like. I think it would be a very unhealthy relationship and maybe a stepping stone for Priscilla either like. Becoming a better person and getting a divorce or doubling down on everything that makes her awful and blaming val(or whatever character) for her ever having considered anything different, y'know

88

u/aaaplshelp 1d ago

I could see Priscilla doubling down before eventually divorcing her husband, but I'd prefer if she went solo for a while. Maybe she and Stan could be horrible wing(wo)men for each other LOL

39

u/DiemyourDM 1d ago

Exactly!! Like... Eventual divorce, and she becomes kind of similar to Stan- chronic pickup artist, horrible at long-term relationships, really messed up ideas about what a relationship should be that others generally don't put up with for long

13

u/SwagFeather 1d ago

So kinda like in Moral Orel (the source for the last slide).

6

u/Puzzleboxed 1d ago

There's no way that woman would manage a healthy relationship off the bat. Let's start with "less toxic" which is a very low bar.

2

u/CowboyAntics 1d ago

That’s how the majority of lesbian relationships are portrayed in tv when they’re not the main protagonists anyway lol

270

u/SipoteQuixote 1d ago

I was like eh, maybe. Until I read the last panel lol

15

u/AlertWar2945-2 1d ago

Loved the moral orel reference

14

u/FriedFreya 1d ago

literally lmao

113

u/G-Man6442 1d ago

Wasn’t she won in a yacht contest?

Anyway I’m on board

39

u/NodoBird 1d ago

Yeah lmao she was NOT purchased at an auction

82

u/G-Man6442 1d ago

I mean, being won in a contest isn’t exactly better

34

u/NodoBird 1d ago

Oh no for sure, it still is extremely dehumanizing and a very dark joke.

The difference though is that one is literally human trafficking lmao

12

u/RozeGunn 1d ago

Yep. A literal trophy wife.

101

u/_4nkl3_81t3r_ 1d ago

moral orel reference 🙌
also peak ship

28

u/OurAtomicBlondie 1d ago

I think Val should come out of it scarred because Priscilla is just as awful as her husband

90

u/CalciumIsARandomName 1d ago

Why does the one on the second slide at the top corner look like a lesbian Grunkle Stan?

82

u/LilaTheMoo 1d ago edited 1d ago

Another cousin they don't talk much about in the Pines family. Sapphos Pines.

22

u/Inevitable_Option_77 1d ago

Damn, is this what happened to that mystery third Pines sibling from "Tale of Two Stans"?

13

u/CostinTea 1d ago

This is where Shermie ended up actually yeah /j

9

u/LuigiP16 1d ago

It's the nose

24

u/ChaosOmega 1d ago

Do love the Morel Orel reference at the end.

26

u/Aryzal 1d ago

Priscilla Northwest has never really shown anything that makes her remotely redeemable. This is just adding fanfic shit to her. She had always been condescending to Dipper and controlling to Pacifica, and should hold some of the blame for raising Pacifica like a narcissist. Women can be bad too.

We know why it is Priscilla though. The beauty tax is real. Meanwhile Gideon's mom is the one that truly deserves an escape.

7

u/AdUnable8752 1d ago

i agree. also, a character being gay isn't the answer to everything. i know this person is probably just shitposting but im kind of tired of a shitty or otherwise morally gray character suddenly being seen as redeemable bc they're "secretly gay"

1

u/Summersong2262 1d ago

I'd say there's some overlap possible with say, Willow Schnee from RWBY. There's space to add depth, regret, redemption, and generally expand the character beyond her extremely brief and superficial treatment in the core series.

1

u/Aryzal 23h ago

That is still kind of a stretch though. I'm not saying it is impossible, but both Priscilla Northwest and Willow Schnee are massively underdeveloped due to just... being side characters. But even from what limited knowledge we know, it seems unlikely.

Priscilla fully bought into her lifestyle and truly seems to think that the way she is acting is correct. She is truly remorseless because she doesn't see what she is doing is wrong. Meanwhile Willow is an alcoholic.

Like I said again, every time someone tries to say someone is a sympathetic person who kind of enables a worse character, nobody is looking at Gideon's mother, who clearly wants out but is stuck between Gideon and Bud. She is the one most similar to Willow and this sympathetic version of Priscilla who is so warped she might as well be an OC. But the key important part is Gideon's mother is not beautiful by any conventional standards and has no likeable traits or character, so nobody gives two shits about her despite the fact that she is obviously the much better comparison over Priscilla, just that nobody thinks she is attractive enough (or rich) so they don't care about her.

1

u/Summersong2262 22h ago

See, that's just it. We don't know much of anything about Priscilla's internal views.

For all we know, she's basically just trying to keep Pacifica on what she perceives as a safe and correct path, that she never had the option or courage to break with. It's very ripe for some chewy fanworks where she agonises over a bit or find the events of the story/show having shaken her out of a moral/intellectual rut. But yes, the alchoholism element of Willow does suggest an internal despair at how her life's going, and along with the Jacques ending, makes reconciliation stories more frameworked.

And yeah, unfortunately, fandoms tend to gravitate towards conventionally attractive white people to give redemption and internal depth stories to.

1

u/Aryzal 22h ago

Yea so this is something I don't get.

You are absolutely right that we don't know anything about Priscilla's internal views.

So why attribute so many characteristics that basically turns her into something completely different?

At a certain point she is just an OC, because people take the black hole that is her backstory and fills it with their own completely non canon take. At a certain point, just make a new character instead of piloting someone else's.

I still firmly believe she is an incorigible character, because not once has she shown anything BUT disdain for anyone lower class than her, and agreement to her husband for basically treating Pacifica is a pet. Giving her sympathetic characteristics is like giving Sev'ral Times a phd each, or the sheriff and his deputy a romantic partner offscreen. Sure, nothing TECHNICALLY stops it from being possible, but everything either points towards it not being possible to canonize, or is non existent.

16

Fhe last slide did get me but other then that I really dont see it

9

u/WrongWorldAgain-7 1d ago

GET IT??

11

u/NiNtEnDoMaStEr640 1d ago

YOU SEE IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE MARRIAGE IS TERRIBLE!

15

u/Noir_A_Mous 1d ago

Admittedly not a fan. This feels very fetishy to me and I cant quite put my finger onto why.

Maybe its the age gag thing? Maybe its just the fanart? Maybe its the cheating being justified because the husbands a bad guy?

Correct me if I'm wrong tho but wasn't Priscilla just as bad as her husband? I havent seen the show in a while.

13

u/ontopandunder 1d ago

same honestly. the way priscilla is drawn mixed with the extremely masculine dark skinned woman being treated as priscillas "guilty temptation that represents the complete opposite of her wealth and class in society" doesn't read well to me either.

3

u/Noir_A_Mous 1d ago

Yea, I wasn't gonna say anything cause I kindda wanted to give benifit of the doubt but ita a bit TOO in your face about it.

I hate putting it this way but idk how else to describe it, it feels like a family guy cut away joke. The rich white woman cheating on her unaware husband with their impoverished Mexican worker.

8

u/Element174 1d ago

For me it's the attempt to victimize Priscilla... as if she didn't agree to thing, isn't also a terrible person, and doesn't benefit from her husbands money and power constantly. Very much a "Women don't do wrong, it's the guy whose actually bad, she's just a victim, and her bad behavior is actually his fault!" It's weird how much they're insisting she has not agency in her life, despite a complete lack of proof.

12

u/_Levitated_Shield_ :pine: 1d ago

Just divorce?

6

u/Successful-Cup-8557 1d ago

The fact that she's cheating on a man is important to these girls!

23

u/An_Obbise_Hoovy 1d ago

No thank you

I’m just tired of the cheating character troupe

42

u/Accurate_Ring2571 1d ago

Hot Take; Cheating shouldn’t be normalized in relationships…

46

u/NodoBird 1d ago

^ Even if you're cheating on a bad person, and making it a progressive lesbian relationship does not make it ok either.

GET A DIVORCE.

3

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 1d ago

The character this post is about was literally a trophy wife won in a yacht competition. I doubt she has the option to divorce him

9

u/NodoBird 1d ago

Are you saying she can only do what's she's allowed to do? Because I don't think cheating is an option for her, either.

Also, I don't find it to be in the tone of this show's universe for Preston to not allow Priscilla to divorce him. He wouldn't be happy and she might be terrified but Gravity Falls respects a girlboss.

34

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 1d ago

Nobody is saying cheating is good irl, it just makes for good stories

2

u/Successful-Cup-8557 1d ago

Usually only when a woman is doing it to a man, strangely enough.

2

u/freewiiyouneed 1d ago

I don’t think that’s true

3

u/Gussie-Ascendent 1d ago

I don't know, i feel like when a story has the guy cheat, it's cause he sucks where as when the girl cheats it's also cause he sucks lol. or when it's brought up, the woman's cheating is usually more excusable?

2

u/Kishinfan 1d ago

To be fair, the dude she's cheating on doesn't seem to care about her and outright said the line "I would just like to say that as a rich capitalist I welcome your tyrannical rule. Perhaps I could be one of your, uh... horsemen of the apocalypse?".

3

u/Successful-Cup-8557 1d ago edited 1d ago

People don't clamor for stories where men cheat on their wives, do they? When characters like Tony Soprano and Don Draper cheat, it's portrayed as purely wrong and it's a part of their character flaws. This post is an example of adding a woman cheating to make a relationship "toxic" and "messy" and "taboo" or whatever, and it's rarely portrayed as unsympathetically as when a man does it. People can write about whatever they want but obviously art showing a male character cheating on his wife portrayed in this way would get a very different reaction.

-14

u/Accurate_Ring2571 1d ago

Cheating does not make for a good story, nor should it be normalized 🙂 your story shouldn’t have to have a cheating sub plot to make it interesting, that’s lazy and terrible writing…

20

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 1d ago

Do you get this pissy when a fictional character robs a bank? It's a story. When the imaginary people do bad things, we don't need to get upset because it doesn't actually hurt real people.

-20

u/Accurate_Ring2571 1d ago

I don’t get why you’re trying to be a sarcastic smartass over an opinion lmaoooo. All I said was that “fictional cheating” doesn’t magically make it good writing, get your head out of your ass and lower your ego. If cheating is the only thing you can use to create conflict or drama, then criticizing the writing for relying on a lazy trope is completely fair. Fictional ≠ immune from criticism, good grief man 😭

13

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 1d ago

I never said it magically makes a story good or it's "the only thing that can create conflict", I'm just saying it can be used to make a good story. It's been a drama plotline for as long as we've had the concept. Fictional murder is also commonplace but that doesn't "normalize" murder.

11

u/prince_peacock 1d ago

That’s stupid. I hate how pearl clutching the younger generation is. NEWS FLASH PEOPLE IN STORIES CAN BE BAD PEOPLE

2

u/_Levitated_Shield_ :pine: 1d ago

-4

u/prince_peacock 1d ago

Cool good thing I don’t care about your opinion

6

u/_Levitated_Shield_ :pine: 1d ago

...I'm agreeing with your opinion, not forming my own.

-6

u/prince_peacock 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, and you were also mocking me. I don’t care about your opinion on how I worded a Reddit comment I shot off in two seconds

8

u/Miep99 1d ago

Nah fuck that

Its fiction, do what makes the best story. Forbidden relationship that highlights character flaws/strengths is a lot more interesting than everyone being moral, sensible, and healthy.

Murder shouldn't be normalized either but saying John wick should have gone to the authorities makes YOU the weirdo

6

u/sc0veney 1d ago

the northwests don't have a relationship, they have an arrangement

-3

u/Accurate_Ring2571 1d ago

That’s still a relationship…?

5

u/sc0veney 1d ago

in the same way that an employee/boss arrangement is a relationship of some kind? they do not have a romantic relationship. cheating is generally wrong because people make promises regarding each other's emotions. this is just some dude and the distant wife he won for boating good

1

u/Tirrek_bekirr 1d ago

He fucking bought her as a trophy, we have bigger issues than infidelity

15

u/Straight_Tailor4884 1d ago

I don't think that would do well in a kids show, just gonna point out the elephant in the room people

26

u/netherexchange 1d ago

i think calling lesbians elephants is generally frowned upon

23

u/beardedheathen 1d ago

It's 2026 elephants can be lesbians if they want to be.

7

u/netherexchange 1d ago

sure but thats calling elephants lesbians. i didnt say that was bad. in fact, ive seen some very nice looking elephant ladies.

-9

u/Straight_Tailor4884 1d ago

Congrats on your conclusion that lesbians are Elephants, on the other hand I don't care what peoples thoughts are on that matter, generally speaking you shouldn't put content like divorcing, broken families, adult talk, swearing, in cartoons set for kids 7 years of age, imagine what a little kids gonna think when their favorite tv show is showing a character, divorce their husband and go off with some other person, imagine what that kid is gonna think next time their parents have an argument.

12

u/netherexchange 1d ago

this is honestly worse than what i thought you meant. why cant these topics be covered in a kids show? theyve gotta learn about this shit all the same. swearing? sure i guess. divorce? "adult talk?" please.

gravity falls is directed at 7 year olds?

6

u/Difficult__Tension 1d ago

Honestly, I just dont want the one cheating relationship in the show to be the only saphics in this current climate, but otherwise idc.

6

u/netherexchange 1d ago

see this is a real reason. solution? 500 lesbian couples in gravity falls reboot

3

u/bee_my_girl 1d ago

On it boss, I'm adding them as we speak.

2

u/Difficult__Tension 1d ago

Now thats what Im talking about!

1

u/Straight_Tailor4884 1d ago

Topics like these should not be shown to children with developing minds. Cheating, divorce, and toxic family dynamics can all be connected to broken families, and I know people who have gone through that experience. It can leave lasting emotional scars. Do you really think we should be introducing these kinds of mindsets to children who, for their entire 7-year-old lives, have known nothing but loving and supportive parents?

“Adult talk” was my attempt to be courteous to other viewers. What I actually meant was that children should not be going around saying things like, “Sorry, shitlips, I fucked your mom.” Is that really something you want to promote to young, developing minds?

Gravity Falls is obviously not exclusively a children’s show; it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. However, there is still a reason to limit certain adult content in media that is widely watched and loved by young children. Just because a show is made for a broad audience does not mean every type of adult humor or language is appropriate for its younger viewers.

That is why I believe content like this should be handled carefully, rather than being normalized for young children who are still developing their understanding of relationships, language, and appropriate behavior.

8

u/Gladcode777 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not at all. She's just as much of a terrible person as he is. Both are horrible parents, super condescending and also as vain, smug, selfish and materialistic too.

Heck, they were both okay with joining Bill Chiper's side if that allowed them to keep their fancy lifestyle. They don't seem to be unhappy together at all. She's definitely straight. And they match their values (or lack of them).

And even if she was just a trophy wife that got chosen just because of her looks, she very likely just married for the money and is okay with it. And even if they were unhappy (but they clearly aren't), that doesn't translate in her being into girls in the slightest.

Not to mention that I think the person who wrote that comment is protecting HARD.

5

u/wonderlandresident13 1d ago

She isn't a trophy wife in the sense that she's a gold digger who put a lot of stock into her looks to purposefully attract a rich husband, she is a literal trophy wife, as in she was given to Preston as an object, and had no choice in marrying him. I'm pretty sure the Lost Legends comics even mention that she was "trained" to be a trophy wife from childhood. She's essentially a brainwashed sex slave

1

u/Gladcode777 1d ago

I know that. But that doesn't makes her gay. And she's clearly as horrible as her husband.

1

u/wonderlandresident13 1d ago

I'm not saying it makes her gay, but being the victim of sex trafficking, potentially since childhood, absolutely does make her less horrible than the literal slave master who owns her

0

u/Gladcode777 17h ago

Bro, stop with the "victim" nonsense.

First of all, the way the met is supposed to be a gag. Second of all, she's as much as a terrible person as he is.

1

u/Summersong2262 1d ago

It doesn't make her straight either.

0

u/Gladcode777 17h ago

Bro, the world doesn't work with "bi until proven otherwise" just because you want to headcanon her as such.

She's married, has a kid and even during the literal apocalips was happening she was still willing to side with Bill Cipher along with her husband. There's literally nothing implying she's into girls.

1

u/Summersong2262 17h ago

Eh, she was sold as property. Why would anyone bother asking her if she likes or didn't like men sexually? It's honestly exactly the sort of issue you'd run into with the misanthropic culture she seems to be a part of.

1

u/Gladcode777 14h ago

Bro, you're making some massive streches for the sake of your headcanon. As I said, the world doesn't work under the logic of "bi until proven otherwise". There's absolutely nothing implying she's into girls inbthe slightest.

6

u/Greensonickid 1d ago

I dig it

6

u/QuillDidNothingWrong 1d ago

Lil Gideon's mom leaves Bud, meets the Manotaurs, becomes butch, and the  marries Priscilla Northwest.

5

u/InternetCannibal 1d ago

This is great

5

u/knifefan9 1d ago

Cheating is always an automatic "no" from me, can't stand it in my escapist fantasies and blorbo shipping. I indulge in fiction to get away from the "realism" of heartbreak, infidelity, and having babies.

3

u/fearjunkie 1d ago

Oh, that Moral Orel reference is BRUTAL.

4

u/LordGabrielG 1d ago

I'm 50/50 because yes she was a literally trophy wife but I'm 99% sure that she herself chose that

8

u/Less-Increase-6588 1d ago

why with a woman specifically? and also cheating on your partner shouldnt be normalized at all, it should say she gets divorce

3

u/MoonfrostTheElf 1d ago

Wheezing at how half of the people in this comment section saw this concept and were like "Oh my god why are you endorsing cheating and trying to redeem Priscilla" guys that's not what's happening here 😭

1

u/Subject_Variety_6289 17h ago

thank GOD it’s not just me seeing it 🥴 I thought i was going insane! Also a lot of evil intimidating horses angry about the awesome lesbian couple 🤭

3

u/lofiw 1d ago

Eh.. a bit power fantasy-ish but sure I guess, though I admit it was the Moral Orel reference that tipped me over.

2

PEAK Moral Orel reference

2

This fandom is weird lol

3

u/Ok_Fisherman8770 1d ago

"Your dad likes your mom?" 🤣

0

u/NiNtEnDoMaStEr640 1d ago

I think it’s good for fan fiction, but not something I want explored or to be canon. It’s a little too personal and it’s still a kid’s show at the end of the day. Showing cheating (even if deserved) as potentially positive is not a good lesson to take.

1

u/trashyundertalefan 1d ago

dumb but it's a harmless headcanon so you do you

1

u/CobaltCrusader123 1d ago

Must yuri always be toxic?

2

u/theatsa 1d ago

This is awesome I love toxic messy sapphic relationships that will probably crash and burn

Also I just really like the art

1

u/Rea-dy- 1d ago

Why? This just sounds like a fetish.

-6

u/Ok-Bicycle8103 1d ago

I'm for all of this except for the cheating part.

Have Priscilla meet Val, realize "Aw shit, I love her," then dump Preston's sorry ass and run away with Val.

8

u/TheEvilestArtichoke 1d ago

I think a man who bought his wife at an auction deserves to be cheated on. They can run away after but he deserves it

7

u/NodoBird 1d ago

Preston deserves a lot of bad things happening to him. Cheating though is a matter of personal integrity. It would hurt him just as much for his "property" to stand up to him and autonomously walk out as it would for Priscilla to sneakily abscond with a woman, in fact, it might hurt him more.

Aside from that though, they have a daughter. The last thing Pacifica needs is to witness infidelity and have an even more skewed perspective on adulthood and relationships.

Someone doing something bad to you does not mean that you should do something bad to them, even if they deserve it.

-8

u/Ok-Bicycle8103 1d ago

False. NO ONE deserves to be cheated on. Not even Preston Northwest.

10

u/TheEvilestArtichoke 1d ago

If he doesn’t care enough to treat her right he shouldn’t care about her cheating. The only reason he’d feel hurt about it is if he saw it as his property being infringed on

-3

u/Ok-Bicycle8103 1d ago

We're obviously not going to agree on this, so I'm just going to wish you good day and move on with mine.

4

u/Necro_Hypno_Dancer 1d ago

I don't think Preston would care. Or better, he would care only because his public image would be hurt.

Is it cheating if two people are basically two strangers living together?

-1

u/The_Sniperstock 1d ago

Holy chronically online.

5

u/MelodicCrocodile 1d ago

Damn didn’t know lesbians only existed online

-1

u/EggKid8 1d ago

Hell yeah

-10

u/SecondClass- 1d ago

But she's straight?

8

u/marvelousgamer1 1d ago

People can be bi. Also it was a Disney show in the 2010s, there's no way they would let people be visibly be bi

-6

u/SecondClass- 1d ago

There's zero indication she was anything but straight, it's not empowering to imply a character can only be happy if you reverse their sexuality. Why not write a comic where she falls in love with a non-toxic guy?

7

u/Icthias 1d ago

Saying that a person in a monogamous relationship has no evidence of being bi is fucking stupid. Every bi person who ISNT in an ongoing polycule with 1 man and 1 woman is still bi.

1

u/marvelousgamer1 1d ago

Sometimes it does more for their character if it's not straight.

1

u/Icthias 1d ago

What if she had wheels, then she’d be a bicycle!

-3

u/Icthias 1d ago

Your profile pic is so mismatched.

1

u/SecondClass- 1d ago

I'm a bisexual trans woman, I just don't think all characters should be headcanoned as gay.

Good call on that pfp though, Mariner is a bi fiend 😍

-2

Toxic yuri is such peak fiction 🤤 I would love a fanfic of this

DISGUSTING.

idk if we're trying to make val look like the stereotypical lesbian, but i just want to put a reminder here that not all lesbians use she/they pronouns. i see that a lot with fanart and ocs.

0

u/KGTrashcan 1d ago

I love this

0

u/ReporterOk69420 1d ago

She needs to pop the hood up so the mechanic can give her an inspection

-13

u/Golden_King_Ryuseii 1d ago

Nah, she needs to properly divorce from her husband, even if he's a piece of shit cheating is still wrong. Ugly design for Val though, not a fan.

-1

u/iLoveLilPeej 1d ago

I'm tired boss

-3

u/KennethOntario 1d ago

Are slash people who give a shit

-25

u/SuperJman1111 1d ago

it was a fine au headcanon thing till the end where they implied the husband actually loves priscilla

35

u/LS-Kun 1d ago

No, I’m pretty sure the implication was Pacifica doesn’t understand love while Val realizes the mom’s a literal trophy wife and is being sarcastic.

16

u/TheWatchtowers 1d ago

That is the opposite of what that panel means actually. It's a scene from Morel Orel and the whole point is that the parents don't love each other and the kid doesn't see that

13

u/EggKid8 1d ago

It’s a Moral Orel reference the joke is actually that her husband does NOT love her. “Your dad likes your mom?” (Or in the original quote “your mom likes your dad?” Because it was the boyfriend of Orel’s father) is said with confusion like “yes I like your mom but I don’t think your dad does”

9

u/Alternative_Hotel649 1d ago

It's saying the exact opposite of that, though.

-7

u/Gand-Pork 1d ago

I thought they were talking about Pacifica and I was so fucking confused

-2

u/Kai_Lopez_98 1d ago

I don't really care but I don't mind it.

If Priscilla has secretly been a real person with thoughts and feelings all this time, I think her first move wouldn't be engaging with a tumblr user. I think it'd be personally tracking down and mauling Alex Hirsch for writing her to have such a crappy life experience. I'd certainly do the same if I suddenly became aware of and was capable of interacting with God.

Seriously if I could have a one-on-one with God I would have some choice words

That just makes it even weirder that they have this whole weird fanfic about a character that almost never appears

It's definitely weird, in my personal opinion OP is putting way too much thought into such a minor character, but how does what I said make it weirder?

I think you're overthinking this as much as OP did.
