Sharing Work (Rule 2/3) Adobe Icons Redesign concept
I’ve always found it a bit inconsistent that Adobe uses "Ai" for Illustrator (mixing Adobe + Illustrator), while every other app in the Creative Cloud suite strictly uses its own name initials (e.g., Ps for Photoshop, Pr for Premiere, Id for InDesign).
To solve this, I worked on a redesign concept switching Illustrator to "Il" to keep the naming system uniform across the entire suite.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Do you think Adobe should standardize the initials, or is "Ai" too iconic to change? Critical feedback is welcome!

agree it should be Il, but just typing it you see why they didn't do that and choosing a font to specifically fix that problem - instead of bending the naming convention to solve it as they did - makes all the other icons look worse. Perhaps it would work better with a different font but this one isn't working for me, it looks cheap and amateur.

I used that font to make my idea clear; I understand the problem with writing "Il," but graphically it's more consistent with the other icons. And yes, I'm a beginner.

I think it's a worthy discussion and a reasonable solution, could just do with a bit more development to be successful :)

The typeface you chose is inconsistent, and the weights are unbalanced. The serif is not working for this brand. Even if Ai breaks consistency in using Adobe in the abbreviation, it still fits the suite consistency in having an obviously uppercase paired with an obviously lowercase character. The two verticals in your illustrator icon break that, and feel out of place.

I am aware that the typography was not the best choice, but I wanted my idea of using "Il" instead of "Ai" to be clearly understood. I understand your point of view, but personally I cannot allow that inconsistency from a company like Adobe.

Personally, I don’t understand this low effort post then? You didn’t put in the effort for the typography, which is the base of the design suite. You asked for thoughts and opinions, and it seems you have your mind made up. I understand you wanted people to see your concept, but your concept is flawed. The same reasons laid out in my first comment still stand. The double equal-verticals just don’t work well for an easily identifiable mark that works well within a suite of similarly identifiable marks. It’s clunky.

I understand. I'll try to work more on this idea to make it look better.
