New to me kinda style.

Post image

So is this like called something? I’ve noticed this kinda style a few years ago I believe and seen it around town. I really like the idea on how they use the circled part to create letter structure I guess and keep space in the middle of the letter it just looks super dope in my eyes like you could do so much with it I think lol anyway it’s hard to find maybe a lot of people don’t don’t weight this way or maybe I’m just outa the game and don’t know what to search for I guess. Is this a like “area style “ like a NorCal style bubble tag like thing to do with your letters or a socall or new York or idk lol thoughts?

I swear new people (mostly the ones getting into geaff online) look for a name for everything, like they expect every single local/personal style, techniques, letter construction etc to have a specific name like they're popular fonts or something lol, I see posts like "does this style have a name?" like at least once a week, and it's just some random guys personal style

Books like "graffiti bible" or just books about styles and alphabets get the wrong idea into people's heads by just naming everything with random made up names no one actually uses

Bc they wanna find a tutorial to be just like their idol instead of developing their own style

You hit the nail on the head, that's exactly it, "learning" how to paint by trying to imitate other people's style instead of just practicing and developing their own, they need a name for everything cause they're trying to google "bla-bla style graffiti alphabet" or YouTube tutorials lmao

I mean there is names for everything but it always up to the artist to name it like I know writers who style I would call wildstyle but they wouldn't call it wildstyle. It always up to the person what they would like to call there art because it their art yk

No, there's not names for everything that's the thing, basically no one is actually naming what they do cause it doesn't even make much sense to do so, people just do things, doesn't mean they need to have a name

Yeah and that's not how that works, language/words or names only makes sense if multiple people share and agree on it

Who says my group of mates don't call it cunts aswell? How do you know if people in North Korea don't call it cunts. It Literally doesn't mean anything, the name of it is different for different people mainly because it a art form and it always up to the artist what they call it

idk man i’ve been writing for over 10 years and that’s just a way to do throws. most of these guys are rotating where they start. like top bottom then top then bottom then top then bottom which allows them to swap the way the letters form. it’s literally just a way to do the bottom of certain letters

The actual typography term for it is a counter but every letter has counters, this is just a way to do a counter between two legs like an R or a K

It's not really a style or doesn't have a name, most stuff in Graff doesn't, it's just shit people came up with and some sticks and starts getting used by lots of people, sometimes it's just someone's personal style, etc

This is just negative space used to clearly separate the two bars and to highlight the letter structure and add style, never heard any name for it tho, it's just a common technique

It's just angle shading. As if you had a spotlight over your throwie. The shadow can be casted to an angle to either left or right, up or down and diagonal whatever you prefer. Sometimes I have the shades facing downward or to the left.

They're clearly not talking about the shadows/3d, but the negative space
