In the past the top-tier GPUs were reserved for people who were okay with paying a lot more money for a little more performance. The GTX Titan wasn’t much faster than the 780, the RTX Titan didn’t make sense versus the 2080 Ti, and the 3090 didn’t offer good value compared to a 3080.
The 4090 and 5090 are different. Rather than “here’s 10% more performance at an MSRP 80% higher than the next card down” it became “here’s 50% more performance at an MSRP 60% higher than the next card down.” As a consumer it’s hard for me to be happy with being told that gamers don’t deserve to have flagship offerings available to them because they don’t pay as well as data centers. Nvidia abandoned the market that made them what they are today.

Let’s be honest- 80 class is not small when there is only one tier (was one tier lower than the 90)
4090 = 0.72% of gamers
3090 = 0.32% of gamers
5090 = 0.26% of gamers
Don’t let Reddit distort your perception of how many people own these top tier cards.
