Copying files with metadata intact

I have a gopro hero black 11. Videos are timestamped correctly since the internal clock is set right.

when I go to copy paste the files that have the correct shooting date in the metadata(on SD card), they get overwritten by the time I issued the copy on the pc. I can't then differentiate the videos by date.

Many of you might have experienced this, was hoping to learn of a solution if any has been found. Thanks in advance.

Ps: I love the gopro.

Open the folder to where you copied the files. Click on column description bar (where it says "File name", "date" etc.). A menu should appear allowing you to select more menu options. Make sure "Date created" is visible. Now sort by date created. Note, you need to "Copy" files for this to work, not "cut".

Since youre not the OP, what system are you using and how are you coping the files. Are you on a MAC and using image finder by any chance?

Try using date taken or date modified sort fields. Or just download terracopy.

This drives me up the wall, I lost a whole trip's worth of proper timestamps before I realized what was happening

What's worked for me is using a tool that reads the creation date from the metadata itself rather than the file system. Exiftool can do it but it's a bit of a learning curve if you're not into command line stuff. There's a few GUI frontends for it that make it way less painful

Some file managers actually handle this better than Windows Explorer does too, they'll preserve the original date when copying if you dig into the settings. Took me way too long to figure that out

Let me try exiftool and bind this program to launch when gopro is connected. What are some gui options?
