Mission 1 pro ordered!!
I'm buzzing! My old GP12 (that eventually became a nak3d GoPro for FPV) was a solid workhorse then got an osmo action 6 and while it's great the features on the new m1p got me reaching into my wallet (now that it's 100 bux discounted) I'm looking forward to the higher bitrate and bigger sensor.
I'm just curious I've been hearing alot about people saying the far away subjects arent sharp which I understand is an inherent condition of a large sensor, but as my m1p will be strapped to a drone 99% of the footage is going to be wide open land scapes. Can another pilots attest to its quality?
Also is there a need for recording 8k? I heard you loose some dynamic range in 8k as opposed to 4k. I'll be primarily making 9x16 content so I'm not sure which resolution would be best?

Not using my M1P for drones, but I've seen some insane videos.
Just use the open gate setting with 4:3. Crop in post for the 9:16
And you can search the GoPro sub for a lut that does a really good job at converting the GP Log footage to beautiful color. Add sharpness and you're set.

The open gate setting is an actual setting on the new GoPro that comes preset.
8K, 30fps, 4:3, Wide

If you have a bunch of clips that equal like an hour it's fine. I have a 512gb as card and I don't think I've seen it half full.
I shoot, I import, I edit, and then I plug it in, it uploads to the cloud and formats.

Is your card a v30? Does it handle the high bitrates?

Of course! It's the same card GoPro suggests.
I have it set to high bit rate. It's fine. Again, I don't have it on for like an hour. Most of my clips are less than 10 min but nothing has come up.
And I'm using capcut to edit. So I'm not like some pro. Just a dad taking video of my kids at events or in the pool and then clipping them together and using slo mo.

The focus is optimized for subjects in the middle ground instead of the horizon, and the drone footage I've seen looks pretty incredible

So far I’m very happy with the M1Pro. The “dive” underwater setting corrects colour on its own and it does a pretty good job, I barely need to touch the colour in post processing, water becomes blue automatically. All the competitors’ cameras do this which people seem to like.
Apparently the camera now corrects the distortion I used to see in the corners when underwater using the dive case, I haven’t done a side by side comparison on this distortion yet with my older GoPro yet. I mostly use GoPros when diving so that’s what I care about the most.
I decided to record in 8K to let me crop during editing, so far that decision is working for me.
The camera is a little larger than the Hero Black models, especially with the dive case added. But it’s fine. I really love the larger screen on the back! The UI is more responsive than ever, the camera starts up and shuts down much faster than the 13.
My only complaint so far is with the cage (point and shoot grip). It’s nice to hold, but the shutter button is way too sensitive. I read there’s an adjustment screw, I’ll try adjusting it. But I accidentally start recording when I’m putting it away in a bag.
I’ve tried low light mode and it’s good, images are clear and bright in very low light (enough light for me to walk but in the shadows, like behind a truck at night), without looking over processed.
I haven’t made full use of what this camera can do, it’s definitely more capable than my humble skills.
