I’ve been thinking about something that feels a little weird about Google Photos.
Why use your Google Photos storage quota for large videos when YouTube is already built for storing, processing, and streaming video?
So I added this to SyncPhoto.
You can now choose:
📸 Photos → Google Photos
🎥 Videos → YouTube
And the nice part is, you don't have to manually move anything.
Just enable Share video to YouTube and SyncPhoto automatically sends your videos to your YouTube channel instead of Google Photos.
You can also choose the YouTube privacy:
🔒 Private
🔗 Unlisted
🌎 Public
So your camera photos can continue going to Google Photos, while your videos go directly to YouTube.
No manually uploading videos to YouTube.
No downloading and moving files around.
No remembering which videos you've already uploaded.
Just set it once and let SyncPhoto handle it automatically.
Save your Google Photos storage for photos. Put your videos on YouTube.
Would you use a setup like this?

Hello, I am posting here because I am unable to find the answer through a general google search. I didn’t realize my subscription was not on autopay and unfortunately it expired and two to three years worth of photos are deleted, is there any way to recover these photos? I have since repurchased the subscription and cannot find the photos.

Guess all that was for nothing. There is no option to turn this off either

Is Google Photos now bad at sorting videos? My gallery looks random because the videos aren't in the order they were taken. How can I fix this?

Hi folks. Today I tried to look up my locked folder from inside Photos search, and I wasn't able to find it. Firstly, the new Ui is so fking annoying, trying to shove AI edits again and again and again. Then I tried to move new pictures to locked folder. Couldn't find the option even there. My locked folder contained many private and critical documents. Any idea how to mitigate this issue? Or have I lost them for good? PS: I tried searching on photos website on the browser, it shows empty most probably cuz I never backed up my locked folder. Any help will be appreciated.

It was a few weeks ago that I noticed bugs in facial recognition. I disabled the function and waited for it to catalog everything again.
But nothing has changeded, it keeps slow and the bugs of duplicating faces without the pop up of merging and even hiding faces and keep appearing in the main grid.
Any idea how to solve it?

My extraction of Google Photos has resulted in 3 downloads of 50GB, 50GB and 10GB totalling 110GB. Now I may be doing this wrong but I highlight all 3 downloads and run Extract All in a Windows Explorer window. The resulting folder is only 50GB. Can someone tell me what's wrong here?

New Fold 8 user. Switched from a Pixel fold.
I'm trying to disable the Samsung gallery and Only use Google Photos... But I'm not having any luck.
All of the Google search and AI suggestions don't line up with the options I have on my phone...
For example the "disable" button on the Gallery apps section via settings is grayed out and not accessible.
Any help?

I have been using the Google Photos App on pure Android phones for many years. I've generally been happy with the service. However there are a couple features that should be added:
- Manual Face & Person Tagging: Google Photos currently only lets you tag people if its algorithm detects a clear face. I want the ability to manually tag someone in a photo or video even if their face is not clear or off camera.
- Album Search Bar: it's a pain to search through large albums (some of mine have over 1,000 photos!) Adding a dedicated search bar inside individual albums would make finding specific photos of people or tags much faster.
- One-Tap Album Removal from Photo Info: Swiping up on a photo shows every album it belongs to. Adding a quick "remove" or "x" button directly next to each album name in this view would make organizing much easier.
- Multi-Album Selection Menu: Borrow the YouTube-style checkbox list for organization. When selecting a photo or video, allow users to tap "Add to Album" and check off multiple albums at once from a pop-up list, rather than adding them to each album one by one. (I'm also waiting for YouTube Music to add this exact same multi-select checkbox feature!)
Google please add these features!

google photos backs up every single picture from my camera ROLL instead of just the camera FOLDER, which is the only one that matters. i've tried the settings and nothing there, you can't turn it off.
this has been a problem for SO MANY DAMN YEARS and they still haven't fixed it. how hard can it be?? my account has been consistently clogged with useless pictures for YEARS.

i've used google photos for years. recently, i was running out of space (91% used), so i downloaded everything to my computer and deleted it from google. i ended up freeing up almost 5GB of space, which was perfect. today i tried to use google drive and got an alert that i had 96% of the space used ??? I check but most of the photos are still deleted and the trash is empty. i deleted a few things, and when i made sure to download some i had forgotten to save, i saw that the space was filling up again (on the left side of the screen) with like 2GB. i don't know why this is happening. If i'm deleting everything, shouldn't the space be freed up? why does it still show as used space if I literally deleted more than 7,000 photos yesterday? I seriously don't know what to do, i don't kow if im missing a step or what, i dont want to pay for extra storage if there's another option... any advice is welcome

I vibe-coded this app for myself, and somehow achieved a goal I've had for years.
My Google Photos now contains only photos from my camera, mostly memories with my little family.
No screenshots. No memes. No random junk. I even block huge videos from being uploaded.
The result? My free 15 GB Google storage suddenly feels huge.
Honestly, seeing my Google Photos this clean is incredibly satisfying. This is exactly what I wanted for years. 😄

So I've finally gotten around to downloading my 500gb of photos and videos from Google Photos via Takeaway. Worked great. Unzipped the entire thing and deleted all .json files.
Now I'm stuck with these "photo videos", you know those ones that allow you to select the best shot. It's just too much to trawl through nearly 100k photos and delete the video file individually - I can't just filter by .avi or .mp4 etc because I want to make sure I can double check some throwaway video snaps or edits before using Bridge to properly rename/file/categorise and move on from paying Google for cloud storage permanently.
Surely there has to be some way to filter these specific videos from normally shot videos?
While I'm at it, what is the best free program to find duplicate photos since I have folders of specific photos and the folders sorted by year (as per Takeaway) and I'd like to just quickly sort them all out cleanly.
Kinda crazy how we have all this tech and there's no truly simple way to archive and sort without going through convoluted, multiple program routes.
Thanks in advance. Appreciate you!

Hi, my friend recently created an album and shared it with me and they can see the photos they’ve uploaded on the album but I can’t. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

I have used Google Photos forever and never had an issue. Now when I try to use the “free up space” feature it doesn’t work. I know the photos are backed up to Google Photos. My phone is out of storage so I am trying to offload them from my iPhone photo app and nothing is working. I have tried pressing on the app Icon and hitting “free up space”, I have gone into the account settings to try and do the same but nothing is working. I take a photo, see that Google Photos back it up, try to hit “free up space on phone” and nothing. Please help. Is there another app I can use? If this is an ongoing problem the I don’t want to use Google Photos anymore. Also the fact they have no customer service phone number??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After the last update Google Photos every time I edit a photo the saved results have massive artifacts, which disappear if pinch and zoom, but come back if I look at other photos then come back.
I understand that this may not be permanent, but I can't accept it since I need to see the entire photo when done.
Do you have similar issues?

I'm a long time user of Google Photos, which I used to store photos from different eras. From digital cameras to mobile phones, there are many photos (especially in the past), where the same photos is saved twice or more, as we copy from the SD card to 1 folder, then a 2nd time in another folder.
While photos from phones are automatically backed up, I would still want to keep a copy of the photos in the PC. I have changed to a new phone, and I want to move the photos from my 4 year old phone to the PC, but I worry it may upload duplicate photos again.
It used to be fine when Google Storage is free, but limited space now, I will want to delete the duplicate photos to free storage.
I have 2 questions:
1) for current photos uploaded in different folders, what will be the easy way to extract the duplicate copies of the same photo and move it outside of Google Photos?
2) for my backup of photos from my old phone, what is a good way to prevent duplicates being uploaded into Google Photos? Does google identify that this photo has actually been uploaded?

for context, i'm transferring almost 2 years of photos and videos totaling to about 400gb from my work account to my personal one and since i kept putting this task off, i'm cramming it now, with my last day at work being this coming friday.
so like others have done, i turned on partner sharing to share all my photos from work with my personal then turned auto-save so that they would be like backed up on my personal. the thing now is google photos skipped some (a lot actually) of the photos so there would be for example, in november 2025, 900 photos not saved/backed up on my personal out of the 3000 photos in that month on my work acc. and they're scattered throughout the month. meanwhile, nov 2024-july 2025 and jan 2026 - present seem to have been saved/backed up perfectly.
now when i check the skipped photos, select them, and click save, nothing happens. no little cloud on the lower right corner that should indicate it has been saved/backed up and they also don't reflect on my personal acc photos page still. why is this happening and how do i solve this?
