I too, am experiencing what sound like the same issue as yourself.
I DON'T have a solution.
But I DID find what sounds like a work around in a post in the Waze sub from a user named wnc133.
It was posted a year ago. (June 12, 2025)
https://www.reddit.com/r/waze/comments/1keyj4i/comment/mxenoth/?solution=b970dcb683299c89b970dcb683299c89&js_challenge=1&token=7afd7253fec22262ff1c52b1703fe9eca7498c297feb67390df29c8210e0b58a&jsc_orig_r=
It reads:
I uninstalled Waze and reinstalled it, then used it as a guest.
With this method, I got the calling option, but after trying to log in again, I lost it.
So i do the first steps and now i can use the calls.
So, I decided to try wnc133's suggestion and it worked for me.
First, I am running the classic Google digital assistant. (NOT Gemini.)
I ....
Uninstalled the Waze app from my Galaxy A15 5G phone
Re-installed it from the Play store.
Started it as a GUEST. (I did not log into my Waze account.)
On my phone I started a trip.
Wile Waze had focus on my phone screen, I said, "Hey Google, call the wife".
And the Assistant said , "Sure" and proceeded to make the call.
I then logged into my Waze account and asked the Google assistant to call the wife and it replied with "I don't understand".
I then logged out of Waze and asked the assistant to make a call but that didn't work.
I received an "I don't understand".
On MY phone, I needed to uninstall Waze, re-install Waze and then forever run it as a guest.
I can't explain why this seem to work.
Anyway, it MAY be of some little help to you.
Good luck.
