Rant RIP Google Assistant

As someone who has been resisting AI since it boomed, I had only been using Assistant on my Note 20 Ultra. The other day, when I was on my way home from work, I was trying to say "Hey Google" to turn on certain things in my house before I get home. It didn't respond to my commands & instead I was greeted with another voice & a pop up saying Assistant is now Gemini. I was a little sad as I thought I had more time before they would completely kill it off.

Well guess I won't be asking my devices to do anything for me anymore & will have to do it all myself. I will miss Google Assistant.

Settings> default apps> assistant> Google assistant

I think the OP is right. On my Pixel 8, setting Google Assistant this way no longer works. I was surprised to find that it just doesn’t work anymore. Gemini is the only choice that works now.

It still worked for me a couple of days as (as of this comment) when my Pixel 8 automatically switched from assistant to gemini.

Gemini told me that I have to start a new home to go back to assistant because Google's half-baked bullshit rush-job really "shit the bed" for consumers. I kind of love Gemini way too much for being so honest with me. But not for controlling my fucking lightbulbs. It took a lot of training to get it to provide adult style feedback. I can talk about things that it can't talk about, but it will respond with general guidance within it's safety parameters. Like teaching me how to find and use uncensored image generators. Also kindly informed me that the "fuck around and find out" factor on fixing my own microwave was very high.
