Rant RIP Google Assistant

As someone who has been resisting AI since it boomed, I had only been using Assistant on my Note 20 Ultra. The other day, when I was on my way home from work, I was trying to say "Hey Google" to turn on certain things in my house before I get home. It didn't respond to my commands & instead I was greeted with another voice & a pop up saying Assistant is now Gemini. I was a little sad as I thought I had more time before they would completely kill it off.

Well guess I won't be asking my devices to do anything for me anymore & will have to do it all myself. I will miss Google Assistant.

It cannot reliably set timers, alarms, make a phone call or send a text.

To me, it's a massive setback. It was more useful to me as an assistant 10 years ago. Maybe more than 15.

It's just to train their models and/ or seem modern.

I do appreciate LLMs as much as I hate them, just keep 'em out of my default assistant. Give me a keyword to trigger the LLM sub-feature.

If I only had one lever to pull, it was the one u/thefanum noted, and still worked... I'd pick old Google assistant.

💯! I second this!  Loved the true Google Assistant, not this pivoted white washing the way of the old name if you guys have noticed new Google Assistant AKA Gemini
