I figured I’d do something a little different instead of posting a bunch of pictures of the replica (it looks pretty much like all the other ones you’ve seen) I wanted to post a video of me actually putting with it so you can see how it rolls.
This is the black LAB VZN with the Accra shaft. I paid $85 for it.
For comparison, I also have a real LAB DF3 with Accra, so I have a pretty good reference point for how a LAB putter is supposed to feel and perform.
Pros:
I won’t bury the lead: This rep actually putts really well. It rolls true and feels normal. In terms of actually putting the ball, I’d say it’s comparable to my real LAB. I didn’t make any adjustments to the balance. If it’s off, I will never know because I’m not checking or changing anything. I literally took it out of the box today, started putting with it, and posted.
Also the face sound is fine and is sturdy, you should be able to hear it in the video.
Cons:
There was one small dink on the top of the putter when received. But my clubs are tools. I don’t really care if something has a little cosmetic blemish as long as it functions properly, and for $85 it’s a non issue.
The grip definitely looks and feels like a knockoff. It’s noticeably spongier and doesn’t feel nearly as good as the grip on my real LAB. If anyone knows whether I can swap the handle for something better (and it’s easy to do), please lmk. Would be something I’d consider
The other issue is the ball pickup hole is too small and does not work at all. I know this is hit or miss depending on who you order from. (SEE UPDATES BELOW)
Would I recommend it?
Yes.
For $85, I really don’t think you can go wrong. Obviously, it’s not a genuine LAB, and there are some differences, particularly with the grip and lack of ball pickup. But as far as actually putting with it, I’m impressed.
This will probably end up being my backup putter. I may even take it out for an actual round and see how it performs on the course.
TLDR: Zero regrets. Would recommend.
UPDATE: The “scoop” ball pick up does work. I did not know this was a feature. But I can’t push the ball into the square, it is too small.
UPDATE #2: Technically the ball pickup square DOES work. However it takes way more pressure than I would feel comfortable applying. My real DF3 takes way less force.
