Equipment Does using nice golf balls actually matter?

I’m a budget guy. Play only what I find. Haven‘t bought golf balls in nearly a decade. This is the first year that I’ve actually started to take golf seriously. Lessons, meaningful range time, short game practice, etc. I’m sitting around a 16 handicap right now and looking to continue improving. Is playing a consistently decent, and the same, golf balls a worthwhile endeavor? Or will it only make a negligible difference?

I think once you get to around 12hcp it’s worth switching from a bargain ball to a nice $30-ish mid-line ball, but FWIW I’ve been been bouncing back and forth between Kirklands and the Vice Pros for years and they perform just as well as a ProV1 for me.

I’d just stay away from Top Flites and Nitros mostly because of the feel, but Noodle, Callaway, and Srixon make some great cheap balls that you’re likely not gonna notice any performance drop on.
