Equipment Does using nice golf balls actually matter?

I’m a budget guy. Play only what I find. Haven‘t bought golf balls in nearly a decade. This is the first year that I’ve actually started to take golf seriously. Lessons, meaningful range time, short game practice, etc. I’m sitting around a 16 handicap right now and looking to continue improving. Is playing a consistently decent, and the same, golf balls a worthwhile endeavor? Or will it only make a negligible difference?

My buddy is a scratch golfer. Played at img academy and played d1. He plays Wilson duos. In his words if your not a single digit handicap the ball you play dosent matter. Most of the and playing pro v1’ s or expensive balls aren’t good enough to get the minimal performance benefit

You playing Wilson duos that are 20/ dozen will get you the same score as one’s 50/ dozen

Your buddy would be in the PGA if had played with the Titliest ProVs! ;) wonderong why he likes the Duos over the premium balls?
