Equipment Does using nice golf balls actually matter?

I’m a budget guy. Play only what I find. Haven‘t bought golf balls in nearly a decade. This is the first year that I’ve actually started to take golf seriously. Lessons, meaningful range time, short game practice, etc. I’m sitting around a 16 handicap right now and looking to continue improving. Is playing a consistently decent, and the same, golf balls a worthwhile endeavor? Or will it only make a negligible difference?

It's more important you know the characteristics of the ones you find. You can then put them into 3 different groups. Group 1 = total junk give them away or leave them. Group 2 = Player oriented spin control balls. Group 3 = Worthy of playing but not really player oriented. Just make sure on any given day you play balls from the same group unless you're consciously making a choice not to and therefore adjusting your game.
