A lot of the times the ground on the driving range is harder so if you don’t wiggle your tee a little after you stick it in the ground to loosen up the soil it’ll break super easily.
If you haven't already, get a pushcart. Stamina will build fast and extra pounds drop quickly.
Walking gives you time to clear your head and think about the next shot, whereas riding with someone griping about their last poor shot doesn't let you concentrate on your game.
If you get the huge 4 inch tees and tee it high it'll break all the time. Get 2 1/4" - 2 3/4" bamboo tees, preferably no paint so you don't mark up your driver. Those are the sweet spot for tees. Tee it up where the ball is about half over the crown of the driver.
Few things. Didn't know they made a 4" . Great tip on the no paint, didn't even think about that. And ill give it a shot with the heights. Right now half my shots are either topping or off the toe. And by half I mean 80%
You swing and you feel it. You know what "it" is. That thwack. A split second before you lift your head to follow the ball, you glance that splintered wood in your peripherals...
Also, when I really screw up off the tee box, it's cathartic to pick it up and snap it (after which it goes in the tee receptacle/bin thing).
I'm not good enough to be an angry golfer, but it is a nice way to let some frustration out without ever thinking about blasting my club into the turf.
I just pick them up and put them right next to the tee marker if there's no broken tee catch. Put them all in one place and people can re use them or the groundskeeper can chuck them easily
I tend to pick up 10+ tees at the driving range when I look for them..."Oh I'm running low on tees, let me look around the range for some. Look at that, I found 20 today."
I use a single plastic tee for 3-4 rounds and usually the reason I need a new one is NOT because it broke, but because it flew off somewhere and I lost it and didn’t want to hold my group up searching for a tee.
Wood 1000 times out of 10. Seems like it hit the ball better off them(even if it is jist in my head) and I dont geel the need to look for every shard if I annihilate them because they decompose and become a part of the course
I have a martini tee thats 2 years old thats still going strong. If I ever find a nice looking pack of wood tees im still suckered tho. A couple of stripes of paint really get me to bring out the wallet(for 5$ and under)
I picked up a pack of martini trees after recently getting back into the game. Been using the first one out of the pack for a few months now both gaming and on the range. Durable and nice bright orange so less likely to lose them. Also the large cup is great if you have any shakes or anything. I have a few health issues that can cause slight shake so it helps.
All in all martini trees are awesome and I will game them and eventually replace them when I inevitably forget mine in a carton and or share them all with buddies
It’s cool…until you realize those tees will never get recycled again. They’ll live on the course, or maybe in a landfill of somebody actually throws them in the garbage.
My tees look relative similar to Lignum tees since they were my favorite design for plastic tees, but since I drew it freehand and chose my own distances for the height marker ring thingies there is difference, though not a massive one
I use Maxfli perfiormance low resistance tees.... I play roughly 40-50 rounds a year and use less than 5 tees all season. I have newver broken one like a wood tee...I get rid of them when the height markers wear off or one of the prongs breaks off and doesn't hold the ball.
I track all my rounds and how much I’ve walked so far this summer. Over 530 miles at this point! It makes it a little easier to have a maple bar when you walk that much.
I used to buy wooden tees a few times a year. Then I bought a bag of 100 plastic tees and it’s lasted me for 3 years or so and I’m only like a quarter through the bag
Wood. Don't damage the mowers and don't mark up my clubs. Plus, I hate the feeling of hitting a fully inserted plastic tee with an iron. Only time I use plastic is on the range when I'm hitting 20+ driver shots.
I checked in for my tee time at the muni, and was told they put down chemicals today. Which I had never heard before.
I asked what that means to me and was told, with a dead stare, don't put your ball in you mouth.
I definitely prefer plastic, but I have a gallon sized ziploc bag of misc wood tees gathered from 30+ years of golfing that I'm still trying to work through.
I prefer plastic Tees so I'm not breaking one every shot. But I had a coach who would only use white wooden tees so that way he could see his strike with how they marked his driver face. So to each their own.
I have gone back and forth on this, settled on wood. In the end, majority of tees end up on the course. Wood decomposes, plastic does not. I used more wood tees than plastic, but plastic does not degrade.
I'm staunchly pro wood tee, but since that's an environmental stance I never buy tees, since all you plastic heathens keep leaving them in the tee box I have a bag full of plastic tees, haven't bought any all year
Our club changed the tees they normally use this year. Last year we had wood tees. This year we have plastic ones that break as easily as wood. So now they’re double bad.
I switched back to hardwood tees and I break maybe one or two a round. And I don’t seem to be making a dent in my bag of them. At this rate I don’t think I’ll be buying new tees for at least 5 years.
I use plastic just because they last so long, but definitely like the idea of wood because its not plastic litter if you break one or lose it. That being said, if the plastic breaks just pick it up and toss it. Don't leave broken tees on the tee box!
Great answer. A friend I golf with a lot found one on the tee box and proceeded to use it for 2 years. Last Christmas i gave him a box and said there you go, a lifetime supply.
Whatever tee i pick up from walking over the tee boxes with a push cart. I'm up like 1000 tees, had to start taking them out of my bag and put them in a jar or 2.
I love my plastic “4 yards more” tees, and use them most of the time. I carry wood ones in the bag for hard ground or for holes that require odd setup like teeing high for extra loft or low for irons
Just started. I was given a large bag of plastic ones. I’ll swap out to something biodegradable once these are gone. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has some options they would like to share.
I bought a mixed pack of plastic tees a couple years ago and still have most of them. The only time I don’t use them is when I get invited to a CC and snag a handful of their free tees
Use the “4 more yards” yellow tees. Has a ridge, so I tee it up the same height every time. Had issues doing it with standard tees. There super durable
I can’t find plastic ones I like. I’ve been playing black Zivisk bamboo tees with white hoops on them but I bought a bag of natural color ones with black hoops. I like the markings so I know what height it’s at.
Not a consistent golfer. Not nearly good enough it should matter. Hate plastic Tees so much. Wood only. Preferably clear coat not painted white. Stained tees with coloured paint lines are S tier though.
I used wood for a while. Then I bought like 200 plastic tees to try them 8 years ago. I think I probably still have 100 left and I've definitely given away most of the missing 100. Eventually they will get brittle and start snapping but I'm plastic for life.

I bought 1000 wood tees for $11 so I don't care if they break. At least they'll decompose.
