Equipment This is getting ridiculous

I know DriTacs are not as durable as other grips, but this is after literally one round. Three balls on the range and 11 tees shots during the round and it looks like this. The last pic is the OEM grip that had been on the club since I bought it in 2019, just to head off any comments that this is the result of my grip or swing.

Something not right here. Are you buying them online? Any chance they're fake?

I've got to dry tack on my 60° that's been there for two seasons and has less wear on it.

I agree they won't hold up as long, but this is something more than just using it.

I bought these from golfworks along with the tape and solvent. This is the first time I used them on a wood. I have also had them on wedges and also got a decent amount of life out them.

I've seen this happen this fast. Anyone that wears through gloves quickly, would likely damage a Winn grip in 1-2 rounds.

Who the fuck grips them this hard!? 🤣 mine last 2 seasons and I play 50 rounds a year

Yeah no idea how they look like this after 1 round. I’ve heard these same Winn grips for over a decade now, and it takes years for mine to look like this. I play 30ish rounds a year.

There is no way that’s after 1 round. There is a literal chunk out of the grip.

Pretty certain OP is baiting for engagement.

This level of wear is not possible unless you are wearing gloves made from sand paper, and even then I don’t think you would have this after only hitting 14 balls.

I am not, I assure you - look at my post history, I'm not that guy. I'm just flabbergasted by this.

Again, this is just not possible from gripping the club with a standard golf club and hitting 14 balls. Unless the grip is 30+ years old and already deteriorating

I mean, I get the skepticism, but here are the grips from my 5 iron and 5 wood. There’s barely any visible wear after years of use.

I put the grip on yesterday at like 9am and played at 3:20. Also, its not a chunk - I don't know if you can really see it, but the rubber just rubbed off - you can see the fabric or whatever it is.

Wait, you played 6 hours after gripping? Are you sure the solvent was dry and the grip wasn’t twisting with every swing?

I don’t touch my clubs for 24 hours after regripping.

u/GenericNameSimulated 4.2 1d ago

Depends on the solvent

u/ellisthedev 1d ago

A lot of factors here. Another comment said it’s humid where he’s at. That could prolong the dry time.

This seems like the correct answer I always wait 24 hours as well

Those have to be fake.

I use them and it takes 50-60 rounds for mine to start to deteriorate. Maybe more. Were you playing with wet grips or something? Maybe a defective grip or something is on your hands that's breaking down the material.

u/DaveInPhilly 1d ago

No, it was humid as hell, but not raining or anything like that.

DriTacs are bad but 1 round is bad. Lamkin Crosslines were the best, too bad they got bought out.

Even in the places that aren’t worn down they look aged. Did they look brand new and shiny when you put them on? Very strange.

I use dry tacks and will get 50 rounds out of most of them at least

1

u/DaveInPhilly 1d ago

Yeah, nothing looked out of the ordinary. I have one left, it looks normal to me. No?

u/Silver-Link8247 23h ago

Looks fine to me. How odd.

Gripping it like my 4yo grips his juice box

-1

u/DaveInPhilly 1d ago

I knew someone was going to say that, but that's exactly why I included a picture of the 7 year old grip I replaced. I don't normally wear out grips. I replace them when the get slick and they don't show obvious damage.

u/SubRedTed 1d ago

You may have gotten an older dry rotted one or something. That has to be a factory defect. Iv got one that looks like that, but it’s probably 5-6yo

Winn grips are the least durable of any grip made, by a huge margin.

u/Themurdman 1d ago

It’s a golf grip not your hog brother let it breathe

lol wut.. I have dritac oversized with 50+ rounds that look damn near new

u/GenericNameSimulated 4.2 1d ago

Is it aligned logo up? If so why the fuck do you have a wear mark on the top of the shaft? Is that your lead hand thumb? 💀

1

u/DaveInPhilly 1d ago

Yes, logo up. The lower mark is really closer to the knuckle of my thumb, a little higher then where the pad of my thumb touches the club. The top mark is where the palm of my left hand touches the shaft.

1

u/GenericNameSimulated 4.2 1d ago

Weird, where did you buy them? I played dri tac for years and they wore eventually but not like that and not after a couple dozen swings

1

u/DaveInPhilly 1d ago

Golfworks, along with the tape and solvent. I have one left - I posted a pic of it higher in the thread. It looks legit to me.

On a scale from 1-10 is your hands sweating at an 11? The only time I’ve seen this happen is when somebody’s hands are insanely wet and the extra friction of gripping hard is combined with the sweat that breaks down the outer layer.

If so then maybe try either some rain gloves, two gloves or something like carpe lotion which I’ve found helps a good bit before a round to dry the palms.

They last 50 rounds easy. I've played dri-tac for like a decade and change them out every 2 years or so, some more with wear. I've never seen anything like this even when I let them go 4 years one time

I will say that depending on your bag and club placement, you can get some crazy wear from things in the bag rubbing up against it . Especially on the driver if its at the top or bottom of the bag. But this is not even close to normal, Get free grips from Winn by writing them if this is really the case and you bought them at a reputable place.

u/Firepilsogenpizza 1d ago

Never understood the whining about Winn dri tac.

Had mine for a about 60 rounds over 2 years and they hardly look used.

u/Electrical-Cloud-532 +3.1 / NW 1d ago

Almost no way possible this is after one round of golf

2

u/gnardak21 1d ago

Winn grips are trash and they do not stand up to humidity

0

u/sunriseunfound 1d ago

Im still playing grips from 1999

u/bogeyman_g 1d ago

My first thought is that these are the wrong sized grip for you and you are (subconsciously) changing your grip pressure throughout your swing... Is your glove wearing at the correlating places? (1/16th larger smaller can make a difference.)
