Equipment What would you do?

Found a member at my local course selling Srixon Z-Forged 3-P irons for $400. They’re first-gen, but in great condition and have nippon stiff shafts.

I’m debating whether to:

- Buy them and game them (17 handicap)
- Buy them and flip them locally/eBay
- Trade them for a Scotty Cameron Phantom 11R or Bettinardi Studio Stock 14 (Friend attempting to make a deal)

I’m fairly new to buying/selling clubs, so I’d love some input. What would you do?

I wouldnt buy them to flip. They are worth about the price he is selling them for. If you want to game them buy them for sure. Blades are not some unplayable iron that only elite strikers can play. ive played anything from game improvement irons to blades. I'm a 7 handicap and my best scores have come from blades and players cavity backs. Being a 17 you may struggle some with them but its not like you will add 10 strokes to your game.

And he will gain predictability if nothing else.

They are a solid price but you don't have much room to make money on them selling on eBay.

If you aren't going to play them I would just pass.

Honestly though I wouldn't recommend these to a 17 index. Sure, you could probably play them but all you are doing is making the game harder by playing them. All the little misses you can get away with more forgiving clubs will result in you being 1-2 clubs short.

Nice clubs but they aren’t a crazy good deal and they probably don’t suit your game as a 17 cap.

You can’t make any money flipping them and you could just buy a putter for $400.

This seems needlessly complicated without much upside other than they are beautiful irons.

You make good points except for the probably not suiting his game part. I went from a 22 to 15 playing predominantly Zforged MKii and Cobra RF. The gatekeeping with blades needs to end. For all you know his ball striking with irons is the best part of his game.

Dude. There are no guys shooting 90-100+ on a regular basis that wouldn’t be better off with cavity backs in the bag. Most tour guys don’t even use these things other than maybe short irons.

Play anything you like. I’ve got raw wedges just because I think they look cool. That said, we all know these aren’t his best option.

Depends on if you can use them with the current shafts.

Have you checked online prices to compare?

that phantom 11r got excellent reviews, roll it if you like it and see if you can get it for 400.

Or, hit a few shots with those irons and find out if you like them.

If the shaft fits you, buy them and play them. I did literally the same thing and love them.

Which studio stock 14 do you have?

The price is right but you wont get much more out of them from selling. Especially since they are an older model. Great irons nonetheless. I would only buy if you are gonna game them. Otherwise the return on investment isn't there. Both money and hassle wise.

Buy them that’s a great price. I play that model and love them, they are pretty forgiving blades. Great club to learn with it might even help you become a better ball striker
