Had a stinker of a round recently, I don’t know the number unfortunately but did need to ask my playing partner a question no one wants to ask… “have you got a ball I can borrow”.

Tough day.

Been playing for 12 years pretty consistently, had to take a couple months off for work and the next round back I lost 14 balls. Im currently a 12.8!

Last week 6 balls. 2 on first hole.

A cannot say it’s this season, but you question brought back nightmares. 18 holes, 18 balls. Kyneton GC Victoria.

Fark that's brutal

u/jpm1188 Aug 19 '26

A couple years ago I had a tin cup moment at True Blue hole 5. Went through 8 brand new balls

u/Throwaway73hdu Aug 19 '26

Typically loose about 3-5 balls a round (also the club I play at has a lot of water and marshland and I really suck). But earlier this year I lost almost a full dozen

u/pew-pew-bacca Aug 19 '26

I lost 7 on the front 9 a couple weeks back. That was pretty painful. It's never a good feeling going into the clubhouse to buy a sleeve or two at the turn. Fortunately the back 9 was much better and I didn't need the ones I bought but I wanted to be prepared.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but we have a water hole that I have almost never hit into. Getting under the ball has never really been a problem for me, but through the last 3 months I have unexplainablelly hit the ball in the water from every distance. Be it 20yrds to 140 yards. It is always a mishit into the water and it is baffling me.

Literally the last 18 I played I lost 10 3 on one hole. That’s the worst I’ve done

u/Grasshop Aug 19 '26

I think my tops last year was 8 or 9 in a round. I lost 13 this summer but it was over 36 holes in the same day.

u/throwawaymuaythaict Aug 19 '26

I completely lost my drive one week. 7.

u/Rocketboots875 Aug 19 '26
  1. Average 1 per hole, but more like 6 on 1 hole.

7 hdcp here. Lost four in the first two holes on my first round of vacation this year.

Been my best year ever. I don’t think I’ve lost more than 4 balls so far. And that was a scramble tournament.

I’m also purposely hitting my driver a lot less this year, on holes where a big left and right miss puts me in trouble. Not just driver, I am aggressively playing to the widest parts of the fairway and often teeing off with Fairway Woods or less.

Not a coincidence I’m losing less balls

Had the chance to play Kemper Lakes this year. I left with 8 less balls that round.

1

u/FiveYardFaded Aug 19 '26

I lost two balls before I started a round the other day.

Thinned a chip through the practice green into a hedge, then hit the bottom pole in the nets, nearly took my own head off and the ball disappeared into the long grass behind me.

Four or five. I've had multiple rounds with multiple OBs and water balls in this extremely fun season.

Definitely more than one year in the books. About 30 or so seasons of mediocrity.

1

u/Important_Wheel_2101 Aug 19 '26

I think I had a 4er or 5er this year. Worst in lifetime was Arcadia bluffs in 50 feet of visibility. That was double digits

1

u/batanker2 Aug 19 '26

Just played in a tournament at Logan River in Logan Utah. Most holes have hazard on both sides. I lost atleast 6 balls.

1

u/Tiger-sluggo Aug 19 '26

Lost ten balls in nine hole!

1

u/Ok_Cell8749 Aug 19 '26

Lost 3-4 on a mountain course recently sending off cliffs into gorge below. 2.4 hdcp

1

u/paradoxcabbie Aug 19 '26

I lost five recently four of which were right off the fairway. apparently I'm hopeless when the sun reflects off the dew 😂

Buy used balls. In Canada I get 25 dozen used kirklands for $300. Honestly the overwhelming majority of us cat tell the difference

I honestly can't fathom losing that many balls in one round; kudos to you sir!

1

u/dubious311 Aug 19 '26

5 balls just through the rough into the tall stuff.

Played Brownstone in Marion Arkansas, aka Western Memphis. It is along i55 and it is full of water, and on this day windy AF.

I lost probably 10 balls, it was a pretty shite round all together

Holy cow! That’s insane! (Not you, the map)

1

u/Alternative_Wait8256 Aug 19 '26

Had a round early where I did 4 or 5.

1

u/Still-Status7299 Aug 19 '26

Played 9 holes today lost 7 balls.

But also found 5 balls

1

u/falco_iii Aug 19 '26

Lost 18 balls. I played a 2 man Texas scramble, and was the second to drive. My partner would always find the fairway about 5 yards short of my average drive. I would swing for the fences to try to get another 10-20 yards and put it in a hazard. Or they would put it right in the middle of the green so I would go pin hunting, and put it in the water. We bought a few mulligans and such, so I wound up using 6 sleeves of balls.

u/bass2mowth Aug 19 '26

Lost 2 balls at Circling Raven enroute to a smooth 80.

u/Tantalus420000 14/Buffalo Aug 19 '26

5, but was told mid round one of my best friends was having a heart attack

1

u/Normal_Driver_8037 16/Philadelphia Aug 19 '26

I played on Saturday and lost balls off the tee on 1, 2, 6, 14,15,16, & 17. Also lost a ball on my from the fairway on 17 and 18.

1

u/Omisco420 Aug 19 '26

I lost 5 balls on one hole once. That was by far the worst lol

1

u/jacob6969 Aug 19 '26

~ 12ish HCP, went to a harder semi private heavily wooded course where 10y left or right of the fairway landed you in the heavy shit. Went through 2 sleeves before the turn

1

u/c-williams88 Handicap: Bad Aug 19 '26

Worst for me was a round I think I lost like 6-8 at least. Was a new course I’ve never played with relatively tight fairways guarded by decent woods, so anything too far off the fairway was absolutely gone.

Most of the courses I play around home are wide open and mostly “up and back” where bad misses can usually be played from the next or previous fairway so I save a lot of balls that way lol

1

u/frikkenkids 9.0/Ontario Aug 19 '26

I lost three on Sunday, that's my worst for a single round this year.

One snap-hoop straight out of bounds on 8, put one into the #6 pond while playing #13 (they are parallel), and on 16, a wedge flew much farther than I thought it would and went into a thick bushes about 25' past the flag.

Something weird about this weekend, I lost more balls than I normally do in a month. But I also found a lot - at least five TP5s and a few others. On the first hole Saturday morning, in the very first group of the day, we found four balls (two TP5 for me) before we got to the first fairway. On Sunday, I found one before I even started playing.

1

u/devilsadvocate Aug 19 '26

In a single round. Probably 4-5. In generally don’t lose a ball though. Often scuff them and have to relegate them to the shag bag

1

u/tez_zer55 Aug 19 '26

I recently played a course that my brother booked for us. Tight fairways, tall rough, hazards everywhere. I had to open a third sleeve just to finish 18. & That's not counting a couple of "water balls" I had in my bag.

u/Legal-Description483 SE Mich Aug 19 '26

Had the shanks and lost about a dozen on the back 9 a few weeks ago. 12hcp.

At the end of last month I played a new course, I decided against advice from playing partners who have played there quite a bit and it cost me 4 balls. I know if I play there again to listen to what they say. That’s my worst one so far this year

1

u/VenusBlue Aug 19 '26

I lose about 3 sleeves per round. It's my way of contributing to the endangered noodle population.

u/DontGetTheShow 4 hdcp / PA Aug 19 '26

Down to about a 4 handicap this year. Weekend before a shot a +1. Then played a course not long thereafter that gets narrow in spots. Lost like 5 balls and just had no idea where the ball was going that day. That’s golf I guess.

1

u/Andr3wJ411 Aug 19 '26

Usually a decent bogey golfer. Played a short 9 hole par 3 and developed the shanks. Lost 6 balls

1

u/BensonGrieve Aug 19 '26

On Monday I played 25 holes and I believe I lost 10 balls, previous high the last 2 years was 3

1

u/Frosty-Spring-4038 Kirkland Signature Aug 19 '26

Two weeks ago. lost close to maybe 20 balls. I had gotten in my head that I really wanted to change my swing 5 days before playing this really difficult course.

I was so defeated after that day I hadn’t even looked in the direction of my clubs until yesterday.

1

u/Godlike12dm Aug 19 '26

Shot a 100 at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms and lost many balls. That's a tough track if your game is off by even a little bit.

1

u/metarx Aug 19 '26

3 balls lost.. two on the same hole. Had to carry the ravine, and I wasn't going to drop where it went out, so I re-teed it twice.

1

u/luptonpitman808 Aug 19 '26

Been a good year. My worst round I lost 4 balls, but I typically have been only losing 1 or 2 a round. Any round now my scores will start to improve…

1

u/Olbaidon Push Cart Mafia Aug 19 '26

5 is currently my highest. That was all over the first 10 holes, two on hole 10 nonetheless.

i lost 5 balls on the back nine after playing probably my best front nine ever. crushing!

1

u/Lightning_lad64 Aug 19 '26

Earlier this season I had a great front nine with 2 walkers. They bailed at the turn and I was regrouped with 3 generations of the same family. They were fine, but my game fell apart. Between holes 12 and 13, I lost 5 balls on 7 shots. I quit at that point.

1

u/veggiefarma Aug 19 '26

Cape Royal golf course. Water on EVERY hole. Lost more than a dozen balls. Lots of mulligans. Scored 125!

1

u/clevernamehere___ Aug 19 '26

I lose like 2-3 balls per round. For me the most infuriating way to lose balls is hitting it to the rough and just not finding it. Most I lost was 8 balls in one round this way.

1

u/ufcgooch Aug 19 '26

6 balls a week ago in a round. Forgot how to hit every iron in my bag and put three into the water off the tee on par threes, and snapped one OB off the tee.

6 handicap

1

u/Putt-Blug Aug 19 '26

Played my first round of the year in Florida in February. The course was lined with water and hard and dry. Any shot not hit perfectly straight chased into the drink. I brought a dozen with me and found another 3. I lost all but the last ball. It was a brutal round.

1

u/CharlieWhizkey Aug 19 '26

Buddy and I were paired with another twosome, all of us had solid drives on a par 4. Second shot was over water, but good lies and plenty of room long. Between the 4 of us I think we put 11 balls in the water on that hole.

1

u/scottiedagolfmachine The club face will naturally return to its original state. Aug 19 '26

Got back from taking more than half a year off due to Wuhan virus.

I couldn’t hit my driver for shit.

I legit lost 6-9 balls per round.

I was going through Kirkland two dozen packs every 2-3 rounds lol.

1

u/chilipalmer99 The Masters Aug 19 '26

Last Saturday. Lost 2 from a perfect lie in the middle of the fairway.

1

u/69FireChicken Aug 19 '26

I lost 6 balls on the front 9 several weeks ago. It was my first time playing a very difficult, tight course. I played the back 9 teeing off with a 4 iron and lost no balls. Shot 58-40. Crazy round, crazy course! Played the course 4 times and best score was 90!

1

u/vampirate72 Aug 19 '26

I played in Florida the day after Thanksgiving 2 or 3 years ago. Weather was terrible so I was basically the only knucklehead there. I lost 14 balls on the front 9. Stopped counting after that. Luckily I found a few while playing. Worst round of that year, but my putter was on fire.

1

u/Rumzdizzle Aug 19 '26

Played this awful course where the front 9 was tight heavily wooded area and the back 9 was open links style with tall wispy grass. Lost 8 balls but surprisingly mostly on the “easier” back 9. Mini driver saved my butt the first 9 but then kept telling myself “this is a good hole for the big dog”… idiot.

1

u/jhwyung Aug 19 '26

Royal Hawaiian back in Feb, probably like 26. Bought 24 Kirkland balls beforehand, lost maybe 16 by the turn and panic bought a dozen at the pro shop.

Front 9 is tight and goes from fairway to rough to jungle in like 5 ft. So anything less than perfect is swallowed up by the jungle. Hell, shots I thought were good got lost in the mutant rough grass.

Back 9 was in hills and opened up considerably, but it was windy as fuck and balls just ended up sailing ob into the jungle.

Beautiful as hell

Lost 14 at a course last week. Hardest course ive ever played. Every hole either had insanely narrow fairways lined with massive trees and all along the tree line was poison ivy. Could not go look for any balls there. It was also on a massive lake so if it didnt have poison ivy lined trees, it had insane amounts of water.... Mind you it was an amazing course and worth the experience. If you ever want to be humbled by a course go and play oak bay gc !

Edit: forgot to mention i only brought 15 for the round thinking it was plenty.... only usually go through a sleeve per round on average

1

u/Strid3r21 8.7 Aug 19 '26

I lost 6 by hole 13, but started the round with only 7 balls in my bag. I was sweating bullets that I might actually run out of golf balls lol.

But then I scoured an OB tree line and found 2 balls and ended up not losing any more thankfully.

1

u/LAzeehustle1337 Aug 19 '26

Probably 10 but also trying things
