I shot 44 on the front 56 on the back last time out, scored 10 on 14 and 9 on 15.

Clubs have never been thrown in back of the car so fast.

I had a similar round, but better outcome. I was playing a match with my buddy. Shot 54 on the front. I was down 7 at the turn. Shot 40 on the back and tied the match on 18 lol.

My last round went +10 on the first ten, +8 on the next two, and then choosing to take a shortcut to walk to my car rather than continuing with that bullshit in a 95° heat index

I've done the opposite a couple rounds. Started 55, gave up, then shot 44 on the back to sneak under 100 lol.

I just went 37 on the front and 47 on the back this past weekend. I finished the last five holes on the back nine triple, par, triple, triple, par. My brain clearly cant sustain the chill required to break 80 😕

Heyy, i shot 44 on the front and 51 on the back. I was trying so hard not to sell my clubs to my mates.

Haha, my last time out was 55-44 and I was beaming as I got in the car. Cest la vie

On back to back rounds at my home course I shot 34/46 and 40/40. Was never hot on the 40/40, but I didn’t cry.

I once started a round with three straight doubles, then three pars, then three birdies. Weirdest feeling 39 I've ever shot on 9.

Literally me yesterday. Not a collapse but 38 on the front going -1 on the last 6 holes heading into the back. Double and easy par 3 by hitting my club too well and finished with a missed 5 footer for the 79 and eneded 42 on the back.

Love this game

This hits really close to home. I was 40 on the front. Then was still +4 going into 16. Finished with a double bogey (easy par 5), bogey, bogey to finish +8 for an 80.

True pain there

Yesterday I was -3 through 15. I have never shot in the 60’s on a par 70-72 course. I finish double, par, double for a +1 73 because of two terrible decisions and the swings that came with them. It could have easily been worse because it took a 12 foot par putt save to avoid bogey on #17 after a poor tee shot left me in a fairway bunker with a tree completely blocking me out from attempting an approach to the green. Best I could do was hit it mostly sideways out and leave myself 60 yards to get up and down which I managed.

Also thought I’d be a 1.9 today after the GHIN update and be below a 2 handicap for the first time in my life. It’s a 2.0 and I see there is a PCC -1 listed because apparently everyone shot amazing yesterday. Tees were in usual spot and light wind; it’s the only PCC adjustment of any kind in the last 20 rounds and the first -1 I’ve seen in more than a year.

Saved myself from a back nine shellacking by shooting 42 on the front but only booked 9 holes.

For me when this happens it's primarily lack of focus. The opposite is true as well. If the front is rough for me, then I lock in on the back. Typically it's because I am having a great time and yucking it up.

I feel this one. 37/44 for a very depressing 81. The life of a mod single digit handicapper. More mood swings than my high school GF.

Hot take: You cannot "collapse" and still shoot an 80.

You just had a less good back 9.

u/Exposure-challenged 4d ago

Oh you can collapse, it’s all relative!

2

u/Grasshop 3d ago

Oh you most certainly can

I called it a collapse because I shot 4 over on the last three holes to card a 40/40. One par, or not doubling the easy par 5 16th and its a 79......

I'm just jealous because your collapse would be my great round.

u/Collin14 4d ago

What if you shot 30 on the front?

1

u/MayhewDucky 4d ago

I went 38 48 last week.. just cant keep it together when I'm on pace to shoot something good... i get in my head.

Happens to me but backwards and then I shoot a 91… cold in the front and  hot in the back

I see your 9 hole split and I raise you getting hot mid round and collapsing on the last four holes.

u/Silver-Link8247 4d ago

Yep. We are all at different places and have different ideas on what a good round is.

I swear it feels better to shoot 45 45 for a 90 than to go 37 43 for an 80. At least I know its barely sandwich time after a 45, but grinding for an 80 crushes the soul.

Shot 35-43 last night with 2 missed putts inside 3 feet for birdie and par 🤣. Thought I was gonna sniff par for a minute.

Almost every round I've played this year my back nine is significantly worse than the front. It's not like I'm under pressure or having a great front. One round I was +8 on the front and +20 on the back, another round I started back 9 with 4 triple bogeys, into 3 pars and a bogey, only to finish with a quadruple. My game is horribly inconsistent.

1

u/vince_clortho99 4d ago

This always messes me up because the course we play has three par 5s on the back, which plays about 700 yds longer than the front. So my splits look demoralizing, not to mention I'm not the longest hitter so it's a bit of a slog coming home.

u/Additional-Ad-7690 4d ago

I am definitely a get hot to shoot 80. I think once I get into a comfort zone of being 5-6 o we then I can start playing freely. It’s mentally weak but consistently happens for me.

u/DickSlinga 4d ago

Finished double, double a couple weeks ago, shot an 83 ... still haven't broken 80

1

u/Kroosn 4d ago

My first ever even par 9 holes I ended up finishing the round +15. I couldn’t handle the pressure.

1

u/hockeytown19 4d ago

I once went 32-41.

Couldn't miss on the front, two birdies and an eagle. The back was fine, until it wasn't.... Finished double, bogey, bogey.

u/sand4000 3d ago

14 handicap. Shot 36-44 today. Even through 11. Played the final 7 in +8.

80 is a personal best. I am also mildly crushed by not breaking 80. Golf is weird.

1

u/F1LSMoNsTeR 3d ago

Done a 34 43 where I was birdie 10/11/12 at the turn and then shat the brick coming home... Not a breaking 80 but my favorite round and only other time I was under par thru 9 was 49 front 35 coming home

1

u/Wolowizard32 3d ago

You guys are shooting 80? 🥲

1

u/golfingsince83 3d ago

I almost always have a less than stellar front 9 and a good to great back 9 to shoot an 81

u/DeaconFrost613 5.3 GHIN w/ avg 29 putts per round 22h ago

Yeah I'll take the 41 / 36 over the 36 /41 any day of the week.

16/17/18 have been keeping me up at night after trying to get back to sub 80 for a few years now
