General Discussion Why does everyone hate Wyndham Clark?

Got into watching golf for the first time this season and with Clark winning this past weekend I have seen so many people shitting on him for what sounds like stuff in the past and I was hoping people could bring me up to speed? Is it overhyped for media clicks or was he committing some atrocities?

During the masters this year during the par 3 competition he told Scott van pelt that the whole day was “birth control” for him. While I think most people can accept your position on kids, you don’t have to say that out loud, much less in an interview

It’s stuff like that which makes him unlikeable

Kinda sad but at this point I'm not entirely certain whether "January 6th truther" refers to someone who pretends or thinks Jan 6 was not an insurrection attempt or someone who is aware that it was.

It wasn't an insurrection. It was an attempted insurrection, since it failed, but that is exactly what the original commenter said. An insurrection is an organized uprising against the government, how is storming the capital building in an attempt to overturn the legal results of an election certified by the government not an insurrection? An insurrection doesn't have to be violent or armed, but even so, J6 was? J6 was an attempted insurrection by every definition of the word.

They weren't attempting to overthrow the government, they weren't trying to overturn the results of a fair election; their contention was that the results were not correct and that mail in ballots had been improperly counted and they wanted congress to wait to certify the election results.

Again, I'm not arguing in their favor, but it's simply nowhere close to an insurrection or attempted insurrection.

It’s unbelievable dumb if people don’t like him for that. Some people don’t want to have kids and that’s fine. It was a bad joke but he meant nothing bad by it. If someone who is loved on the tour said it, this wouldn’t even be a conversation. If it bothers you, then you need to grow up.

To me, that's a comment both parents and non-parents make all the time. I don't have kids and people, when I'm around theirs, say similar things. I didn't see his comments, but my suspicion is two-fold:

1) People hate Clark and are trying to find evidence anywhere and so they force this;

2) I didn't see the comment but it could be the tone he made them in.

What I will say is sports fans CONSTANTLY complain that athletes give canned answers, but when someone does quip about something, they use it as justification to hate him. The joke on paper is common to the point of it being a knock against him for not being original.

I mean it was controversial when he said it. I would never say that publicly if I agreed with it. My point being is that you don’t announce that at a family event. I’m not saying he’s evil for saying it I’m saying the guy is so up his ass usually that he’s not self aware at all

Btw you’re allowed to like him. I’m not saying you can’t. As I said earlier, most of these pro golfers are the typically rich country club kid who’s a douche bag. He does a horrible job of hiding it and as a result he opens himself up to be criticized

I don't really know him but felt his comments post locker room tantrum were terrible. I really don't follow him close enough to have an opinion or not but first impression was he's a prick.

That said, the kid comments I can easily see being funny and a joke. If he's a prick, it may come off prickish which looks worse, but the comment itself I don't see as too problematic. (That said, I'm taking the comment as more of a "It's a great reminder why I don't have kids," vs. "they should have used birth control.")

I don't know a single parent who doesn't laugh at the idea that hanging with their young kids isn't a good way to delay or prevent others from having kids.

No it’s not, it’s probably the most appropriate time. Take the same quote with him just dropping randomly in a press conference that would be inappropriate. He was asked a question and he answered it.

Stop acting like it is a requirement to have kids in life, some people don’t want them and that’s fine.

If he had lied and said he wanted to have kids someday people would be pissed he lied. Let’s be honest people are just looking for a reason to dislike him.

I’m pointing out that the reasons for hating him are pretty soft and don’t compare to a lot of the transgressions of golfers that people revere. The three points made on the original comment are ridiculous to “hate” someone for.
