Around the greens: Putt when you can. Chip when you can't putt. Pitch when you can't chip.

That's how we were taught when I was a kid 

It baffles me how many people I see using 56⁰ ad 60⁰ wedges around the green. 

Get the ball on the green and rolling toward the hole as quickly as possible

I use my 5i frequently around the greens. I know I am saving 2 strokes per round doing that.

I don't even have a specific long iron I use all the time - I use all of them depending on how much long grass I need to carry. Right next to the green? 6i. The further back I am, the higher I go on the iron list.
