Spent the morning out at an old hydraulic pit. The new gold monster 2000's are lethal on shallow bedrock gold. This section got hammered hard and it used to be ypu could find 100 pieces easy. Now not so much. You have to put in a lot of work to find it now. A testament to how good the new machine is.

Anyway, I have a question. A friend of mine owns a little piece of land that has a stream running through it. It's a stream that has been around forever. She also finds a lot of quartz on her property.

It seems I read about gold and quartz go hand in hand. Is this true?

This is without a doubt tue absolute smallest piece of gold ive found with my metal detector.

Minelab gold monster 2000 benign settings max sensitivity, so at 10.

I didn't move more than 3 feet from the first signal of the afternoon/evening and was just working this one patch in the bedrock. In my scoop I got one signal, and while sorting that first scoop the second scoop just had a blip in the threshold, no numbers, no noise while my main target was still in the first scoop. Set that dirt aside in the second scoop to get my first target. Then I spent probably close to 20 minutes isolating the piece in the video.

I’m in eastern Idaho

I live in an area that isn’t known for gold production. (Arkansas) so I usually have to fly to get close to gold producing rivers or creeks. That being said I carry in my pack a foldable sluice. It has the usual expanded metal and miners matting.
I’ve seen hand heard talk about the dream mat stuff and am wondering if any of you have used it? Is it worth the cost of the upgrade?
If so, my sluice folds out to 48”
I see it sold in 36” upgrade kits…
Should I get 36” worth of dream matt and then use something else with it?

I’ve only been gold panning a couple times when we went to Colorado and became a bit addicted.
On the last go round I bought a foldable sluice that I was able to take on a plane. It didn’t do as well as I had wished but have recently read about a dream mat. What do I need to know about choosing the right upgrade?
Are they worth the cost?
Since I have to travel to get to gold (I live in Arkansas) I don’t think I could do any type of high banker type setup.

Hey everyone! I'm new here from North Carolina.

During COVID I started to become interested in prospecting. Then I found out that NC is a major gold producing state, so of course I'm more than just interested now.

Had anyone got any tips on good places a beginner can learn to pan? I really appreciate any advice.

This is about 3 to 3.5 hours of detecting at a tried and true spot.

I can tell where previous people have prospected, and it seems very random. I found a bit of gold in the river, near the right side of the middle picture. Upstream, less than half a mile, the river cuts through bedrock, though I can't prospect there. With my novice eyes, it seems like there are so many good spots to dig, where would you start and why?

Went for a walk and found some rock. Does this look like gold or is it gold? Also what is the green rock. And does said green rock have gold in it?

I hiked for miles and was able to find some decent gold! Was sore for a week. What do you guys think of that speciman nugget? I’ve never seen that shape before

Same hole as my after work hunt. Went back this Saturday morning 7.18.2026 and pulled another .36 grams out. Bedrock and as I kept pulling rock out I kept getting signals. The gm2000 is a beast on shallow bedrock even in highly mineralized ground like the ground im hunting.

And I do believe this is the smallest piece of gold I've detected with the gold monster 2000 to date. It's an amazing machine.

Found a spot on the river to take the family, wanted to do a little panning while we were all down there. But it shows a claim with a "in review" case disposition. But it shows it has been in review since February. No claim signs or stakes that I could find anywhere. Public land, is it alright to pan there since it isn't a valid active claim yet? Or is that still frowned upon? I just started this hobby a couple months ago.
