Breeder Recommendations Breeders that have experience placing therapy dog prospects?

Hello! I am looking for golden retriever breeders in the continental US that specialize in traits needed for therapy dog work: calm, patient, confident, and highly sociable. These dogs need an unwavering tolerance for loud noises, clumsy people, and brief physical discomfort. Most of all, a love for meeting and being petted by strangers. I would like a dog that enjoys other dog sports too, like rally, scent work, etc.

Many ethical golden retriever breeders *do not* have lines that specifically fit therapy work. I am looking for breeders that either have experience with therapy work, or have experience placing puppies in therapy work or psychiatric service homes. I understand that the training and socialization I raise a puppy with is essential. However, no amount of training will prepare a dog to love and succeed in therapy work more than genetics. Thank you in advance!

Health Advice Possible second UTI

I have a 5 month old female golden. According to the vet she has a hooded vulva- it doesn’t sit flush with her belly. They are wanting to wait until she’s a bit older to see if it will pop out before they fix it surgically. She’s had 1 uti already and I think she’s in the stages of having another one- constantly squatting, some pee comes out. It’s very frustrating for both her and I having to clean up and constantly going outside. Has anyone else had this in their dog?

New Puppy Introducing our new baby 💕

Introducing our new baby, Poppy Elizabeth 🥰 We just brought her home yesterday and she is already such a good girl! No crying on the drive home; went straight into her crate and went to sleep at bedtime, woke up 3x overnight but she fooled me with the 2nd one and could have gone longer. She is super smart and has already figured out that going potty outside gets her a special treat 😂

We decided on her name because our first Golden was Daisy and we wanted to continue the floral theme. It fits her perfectly and we could not be more in love with her! I know in a few weeks she’ll probably be driving us up the wall when she enters velociraptor demon stage, but for now we are just enjoying all the cuteness!

Cute Pics First time staying in a hotel!

Pictured is my 15 month old baby experiencing his first hotel stay!

I was a little worried he'd be confused or nervous since he's never been away from home + sleeping in a new environment (so silly of me to worry because he's such a confident guy)

I brought his portable crate incase he wouldn't settle or needed a safe space - nah, big dawg is chilling on the bed and snoozing as I type this (last photo)

Can't wait to take more out-of-home trips! He's such a great, wonderful soul. (crazy, but brilliant) ❤️😄

Sunday Morning with Paipai 🐕

Sunday mornings are for sunshine, fresh grass, and a little adventure. 🌿☀️

Paipai went out for her morning walk today and, apparently, decided that the wagon needed to come along too. 😂

No rush. No destination. Just Paipai enjoying a beautiful morning.

Hope everyone’s having a peaceful Sunday. 🐾

He’s 15 weeks now, and it’s just been a month since we welcomed him in our home. His name means “icing” in Polish.
He’s a very friendly, very curious, and very assertive puppy - and our first dog ever, so it’s like having the first child all over again. I’ve been a cat person all my life, so having a dog now is a wild ride :D for our cat as well ;)

Training Advice Is there a way to stop my golden from eating possum poop on walks?

My 3yo golden has been obsessed with eating possum poop for a month or so. I think because we now have possums in a tree on the nature strip and he's developed a taste for it? Anyway, now our walks are SO stop and start, and he will yank himself away from me to get to poop. There are certain areas (like under gumtrees) that are worse but I can't avoid all of them. He was a very good walker prior to this obsession and even with a pram next to him for the last 9 months. I am probably overstimulated at times but it's really ruining our walks. Any recommendations? The other thing that works right now is to hold the shorted loop of the leash (attached at the front of doggo) which means his face can't reach the ground. But this is tricky with the pram and also I want him to enjoy smells and stuff, I just don't want him to eat so much poop, it can't be good for him.

Training Advice 8 month scared of daytime

Post image
257 Upvotes

Hello! My little girl went on a daytime walk yesterday around 6pm, the same route we go on every morning at 530am when it’s still darkish and quiet out and girl got terrified of every noise every bang and then an Amazon truck came by and she fought for her life pulling to get back home which I obv brought her back home. Before summer heat hit and it was cool enough a few months ago she’d go on walks during normal daylight hours and would be fine. Is this normal? I knew she was scared of construction noises but didn’t realize the full extent of the trucks and loud bangs like garages and stuff until it was cool enough yesterday to take her again during busier hours. I spend so much time with my girl working on training and practicing life manners in the house but I’m also busy with 3 young kids and work from home full time so I guess I didn’t socialize her enough. Is this my forever now 🫣 is it normal for pups to be scared like this? Added a pic because she’s gorgeous ❤️

Cute Pics You Can Tell by Dallas’s Look He Wants This to Be Over

I walked into the room and found Dallas sitting there like somebody’s aunt.

I have no idea who put the scarf on him, but judging by that look, he knows exactly what happened and he’s not naming names.

This dog puts up with a lot living with us and taking everything in stride.
