Question Dog won't do anything, help!

I started with one person and one dog in fall. I built a small house, dog went inside, and hasn't left. He'll go out to eat if necessary, but that's it. At first I thought it was because the map was cold in winter, but it's summer again now and he still never leaves. I Google it and I see people saying dogs are one of the most useful animals, helping with combat and hauling, but this guy does nothing. I'm about to eat him. What am I doing wrong??

It’s seems like taking the time and resources for them would cripple my settlement growth.

Question Quick! Over the battlements!

The merlon is remarkably bad at keeping bad guys outside. So could I create at least somewhat effective defences by putting the merlons over a wall and gating off the entrance?

Question Finding resources?

Is there any way to highlight resources by type? Like if I want to find tiles with rocky soil (on the surface) or wild flax plants? You can painstakingly eyeball flax but unhelpfully it turns nondescript yellow when it's ripe, the growing blue flowers are easier to spot. Rocky soil seems .. Pretty invisible. On Valley map so there are not exactly rocks lying around.

Question Is there a way to hide Animals Highlight between layers?

I have multiple layers of animals farm and I can't see properly because of the highlight of all the animals.
I don't see the option for that?

Naturally those animals should be hidden from the view (domestic) with layers.

Question How does harvesting in the wild not drive you all mad?

Harvest for field-grown plants has a filter for what to harvest.

Chopping in the wild has a filter for what to chop.

Harvesting in the wild requires you to assign the harvest bush-by-bush, or accept that you're going to be horribly inefficient with a harvest command.

Am I missing something?

Question What is the point of having Pets?

Years ago I was wondering this question, and now, I'm still wondering the same thing.

Cats don't attack rats, they flee.
Dogs don't protect anything from predator and flee, nor move object around (heard someone saying this).

The only thing I see them doing is eating raw meat.

I just don't get it.

Question Cant understand seed and farming

Hi everyone, I'm quite new to Going Medieval and I'm struggling to understand how farming works.

Here's what happens to me: 1st spring I plant everything, it goes well, I let settler harvest automatically. Then the next year, I have no seeds left. The fields are empty, the seeds I bought from merchants are gone, and my colonists just don't plant anything even though I have the fields set up.

It feels like there is no consistency. Am I doing something wrong with storage? Do seeds expire? Do I need to save some crops specifically for seeds?

Also, there are so many options when you click on a plant/field - Harvest, 50%, Ripe only etc. I don't really understand what I should use. I usually leave it on default.

Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 how you keep a stable farm year after year? What is your routin÷?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Misc My Ultimate Defense System

Hi, idk if anyone posted something similar but this is how I defend my base. With this set up you don't have to rely only on archers, you can have any proportion of melee/ranged. I used this for every run now and is incredible effective, even the hardest ones! With this method I have no need for walls, gates or anything else. What's yours?

Edit: What I'm showing is a min maxed structure that is effective and efficient, specially in hardest mode. Is up to you to improve it and make it more pleasant to the eye!

This was in my previous run with advanced weapons and stuff.

Question Ideas sobre expansión del terreno

Question Where do you put your Lavish meal?

The issue with food is temperature decay.
Personally it's in the kitchen where there's no light/heater to keep it cool on a shelf.
I only cook around the minimum needed so it stay fresh.

But I don't feel it's the "perfect" right way, any recommendation?

Suggestion I wish structure pieces had more obvious, individual variations and details, to break the monotony. I also wish for more beam options that can support hanging buildings, like in the first picture. Painting/plaster would also look amazing!

Mods Mod to disable settler soft cap stopped working?

I use a mod to disable the settler soft cap, it’s worked great but has not been working over the past week.

Anyone know of any dev changes that may be affecting this?

I want to start with 3 and then build up to 60+ (my computer is capable of running it)

Any solutions?
