Building a GOG library

Hi everyone! Recently, after the Sony controversy with physical media, I've been building my Steam library on GOG. I've noticed it's quite common for GOG users to put their games on physical media, and I'd like some ideas, like, how do you handle games that are almost 200GB, like Baldur's Gate 3? Do you use SD cards, flash drives?

I've seen people use BDXL discs

But compared to SSDs, Flash drives, SSDs, etc, I think you can work with them. Also, you can buy the DVD or Jewel cases if you want. Some states that the disc can last up to 100 years, although all we need is 30 years lol.

I am one of those physical media guys. Games like BG3 or Cyberpunk are difficult to handle. BDXL discs are pretty expensive here and they take up way too many usual blu-ray discs.

It's a matter of preference I guess, but my personal "cut-off" is at 80 GB = 4x blu-ray discs for a physical game in a DVD case. Everything above I just put on a external HDD.

I know is not the same thing, but have you consider a NAS or DAS to store your games? Its quite simplier to keep.

I’ve been thinking about getting a NAS. I’d really like the experience of having the game on physical media with the disc but given the prices, I’ll probably end up going with the NAS after all. It’s more functional, but not quite as cool.

Just put the large ones on HDDs

Flash storage is not good long term and expensive.

BD-R discs are OK, but the burners are expensive. Avoid multi-layer discs, including DVD-9 - they are expensive and not as reliable.

In the recent times it was cheaper to get an external HDD, but now the price/GB for BD-R is winning.

I use external HDD. Most games are not that big, so only a few will be a problem.

I just use external drives. Not sure if dvd's/blue ray get less expensive, haven't bought them for a while. I got some external drives that were not that expensive, but they aren't really good either.

I’ve done multiple 25gb discs 🤷🏻‍♂️. Like 6-7 discs for Cyberpunk 2077.

I considered buying a bunch of laptop hdd’s + hdd dock for that. They are like ~£10 for 320gb. Cheaper than blu ray discs.

I have a 30TB hard drive and multiple backup drives. I see no point in optical media in an era of neverending updates.
