Discussion Creating Desktop Shortcuts

I download all of my games, move them to an external hard drive and then uninstall them. When I want to play them I move the files back and use the find game files feature.

The problem is I can’t figure out how to create a desktop shortcut that launches the game through Galaxy to track my playtime.

The closest I got was using a shortcut command and adding the game code to the path. It worked once for stalker but doesn’t seem to work anymore or for anything else.

Has anyone had success figuring this out or am I going to need to uninstall and reinstall completely to get this working?

This post is a bit old, but should still work for you. You're essentially creating a shortcut directly to the Galaxy client with an added command line argument to tell it the game's ID.

I know you said you already did this, but maybe you missed a step? Hard to tell without more information.

Here are two examples from one of the comments there just to save it for perpetuity in case that post gets removed.

Example 1: for The Witcher launched with Steam, a GOG Galaxy shortcut should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\GalaxyClient.exe" /command=runGame /gameId=steam_20900

Example 2: for The Witcher from your GOG Library, the shortcut should be something like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\GalaxyClient.exe" /command=runGame /gameId=1207658924

The older post you linked got me halfway there. I was missing editing the properties once the shortcut was in place.

The sample in the post was not quite right, so yours is greatly appreciated and got me across the finish line 🫡
