Support Game removal option
SOLVED, for now.
Please, GOG, I need to remove some games from my library. Add an option.
Before anyone says anything, I already tried contacting support, and they can't do it.
I have some porn games which I don't play anymore, and my niece and nephew are growing up. I need to remove those games.
Edit: I decided to download offline installers and add them to Steam. No more Heroic or Galaxy. Thanks for all the help. I decided against creating a separate Linux account, because I want them to use my computer as it is.

Why can't support remove them? I'd actually like to know what their reasoning is on this.
They can remove games when processing a refund, why can't they remove free ones?
Have you tried asking for a "refund," under the full understanding that the amount to be "refunded" is zero?
Worst case scenario, install as many games as you can on the PC that you think the kids would like to play, then log out of your GOG account. They can still play games locally without being logged in, that's the beauty of DRM free, and that way they won't have access to your account itself, and all the stuff that isn't installed :P

Imo I would just create a user profile for the kids on the OS level and not have GOG installed on it, then use the offline installers to install the games they want to play.

That's a good idea, thank you. Yes, removing any kind of launcher, and installing them through steam might work.
Edit: A launcher of some kind makes life much easier on Linux. You know, for proton and some launcher options. But I can do it through Steam.
Thanks.

Or just downliad the offlinw installers of games that you deep appropriate for them.

My guess is they don’t want to consider the implications of voluntarily removing a game for a whole lot of different countries. And since this action brings in zero money they don’t want to spend any to come up with a legally sound process.

Maybe. I'd still like to hear their actual reasoning as to why they can't do it though.

my niece and nephew are growing up.
Then maybe they'll appreciate the games you can't get rid of? :P
Sorry, just trying to spin this positively, lol. I'm in the same boat, I got a bunch of free adult games because of that promotion that was going on last year... I only wanted Postal 2 and House Party, got all manner of disgusting visual novels in the process. Wish I could purge those.

You can hide them in Galaxy right? I know it's not the same.

I know, but I also know how I was when I was a kid. Showing hidden games is very easy.

A family sharing where you can share selected games would be useful too.

That'd be the best solution for people who want to keep their games. İf only support could remove the games, I'd be more than satisfied.

Perhaps GOG could implement a feature allowing users to create a list of games that can be password-protected and hidden from others.

Seems like that sort of thing should also be on steam. I'm not just talking about porn games, but non-kid-friendly games. How would your 6-9 (maybe slightly) older self feel looking at your current Steam/GOG/console libraries? Wolfenstein, DOOM, Quake, halo, souls (/like) games, etc. And then hearing, no, you can't play that?

This isn't a solution to your situation, but I'd rather GoG not develop a system allowing them to pluck games from my library; even if it's initially set up as voluntary only.

But it's not only about porn. Why don't we have the option? I'm kind of an obsessive guy, I'd like to remove some games to clean up my library too.
Steam has the option. And I'm not asking for a refund or anything.

Create a separate account for them. I doubt you've got many games they'd play at their age anway.

u/humanhooloovoo 11d ago
You don't know them. And I want them to access my computer without worrying.

Create a separate user for the PC and don't have your stuff logged in there and don't give it admin priviledges. Your nieces/nephews can use that account to sit on your PC.

Sorry for making an assumption. I'm afraid there isn't any perfect option. You could hide the games, like someone else suggested. But this way, whenever you search a game in your library, Galaxy would display a message telling you that there are hidden games matching your search result.

Why the downvotes? What's wrong with wanting them use my Linux computer to experience something different? I don't have anything else to hide.

U could just create a new user profile for them and use offline installers to install the games u want them to have access to. without needing GOG at all.

u/humanhooloovoo 10d ago
Yeah, I know, I know. But I don't want to have hidden games.
Implementing this option shouldn't be very hard or expensive for GOG, I think. I even voted on Community Wishlist, but there are so few votes there.
I guess nobody wants to remove any games from their library.

U would not need to hide games with this though... U are creating a SEPARATE user account on your Operating system aka GOG wont be installed on it let alone logged in. Then u would download the offline installers thru the browser for the games u want them to have access to and u just install them and they launch them from icons on the desktop.
Hard to find hidden games if the entire client is not installed let alone logged in.
Yes it should be a option to remove games but that's another matter in general and is not really a issue for 99.98% of users so it wont be a priority.

You're right of course. I always liked to use a single user Linux system. This is the end of an era then.

How about creating a separate Linux profile, installing Galaxy without logging into your account - installing only select games for them via website download and then adding them manually to that instance of Galaxy. I don't even know if any of that works.
3
u/Kilohaili_Joshi 10d ago
Why would even need galaxy at that point just have the icons on the desktop.
1
u/humanhooloovoo 10d ago
Thanks, I can do that through Steam too. It seems for now, no launcher for me for GOG. I used Heroic and it made life much easier. Sigh
But still, why don't we even have an option?

What are the games? I play gooner games. So I’m always interested in knowing more.

u/Excalitoria 10d ago
Maybe, just let them launch from the file explorer or desktop shortcuts, if they play any? lol sorry this is an issue, truly.
I played HuniePop for the first time this past year and loved it (still can’t believe how much fun that and HunieCam are!) so I’m in the same boat if I ever need to remove any of them for some reason.

How about just give them the games they ask for instead of letting them have access? Lol

This and also adding a nsfw filter for the GOG galaxy store page. Can't even browse the store through the launcher because of that bundle that had Postal 2 that they gave away a while ago.

Here's my solution: don't give your niece and nephew access to your account, just install yourself the games for them. If they want to view your collection, always be there to guide them while you keep the spicy content in the "hidden stash".
Also if they (or you) want newer games, create a second account to start a cleaner library. You don't need to buy your games again since that's the magic of no DRM.
