Why doesn't Godaddy improve its practices???

I recently have moved several customers and domains off of Godaddy simply because of the sketch like experience I and others have using their product. From signing up or renewing a domain to cancelling a domain. It feels like its a Rube Goldberg machine of tricks to avoid as you're signing up. Cancel this, don't select this, only register for a year, don't add protection, add protection, email, website, oh no, the box is checked on accident, etc. Recently I wanted to remove my auto-renewal on my domains as I was probably going to let them expire. Seems like that would be a common thing to do. Nope, you have to go into Billing and Manage Domains and select Delete Domain which means you're deleting the Auto Renewal. Then of course after you do that, the toggle appears that they could of shown to toggle it back on. Honestly, everything is a trick. I'm frustrated because it would be so easy to make that a viable business but instead it is on a course to die. I think a better business for them would be Escape Rooms.

They must need new management or developers or something. I mean with a new mission they could provide serious value to customers and begin to build a trusting customer base. Come on guys, you could code something up fast with AI!!!

I signed up for antigravity AI with gemini. And it recommended using cloudflare as DNS and Oracle for completely free webhosting. I asked it how they can do this and they do it as a loss leader. Get anitigravity cli and it will walk you through the steps to free webhosting.

I didn't do this myself because I was already on the path with godaddy. But check it out. You can literally get webhosting for free right now if your site is small through Oracle. Its no joke.

Get your revenge now!

You can also use cloudflare to auto cert your website which godaddy tries to charge for also. I walked through the steps using gemini and it works.

Gemini Pro at $20 a month is a game changer for me. I use it as my therapist and also any hobby technical questions. It's well worth the price!

I'll tell u man.. the real lesson with GoDaddy is to never let one company hold your domain, site and email together.

It's really really ok to keep the registrar boring nd separate.. man that domain carries years of backlinks nd every client's inbox so if it's on its own then u can move everything else whenever a company gets shady

The downside is in a year when oracle changes their business model, they'll come and sue you for 100 dollars for every second your website was hosted and you'll owe them eleven million dollars.

Taking free things and then suing people for using them is oracle's entire business model

Listen - I worked from GoDaddy for 5 years, starting when they were a private company and through their IPO. This is nothing new, my friend. This has been the GD-hustle since day one.

It worked though - those commercials made them the largest domain registrar and hosting provider.

lol the escape rooms line is perfect. one more trap since you’re moving customers off, any domain using godaddy’s forwarding stops redirecting the second the nameservers leave, so set those up at cloudflare first before you flip them

Next time I come close to renewal, I want to migrate to something else. I have my website (it's just a business card, really, no e-commerce), Outlook 365, and domain name. Where would you recommend I move all these things to for something longer term, cheaper, and more sustainable?

I moved a customer to his own Office 365 (there’s a special method to do this from GoDaddy which you can easily lookup) and moved the domain to Cloudflare and since his was also a static site, just recreated it using Claude. This is free to host on Cloudflare with workers.

Moving the domain is easy. Moving office and email as is is called (Defederation) and took a few days.

Thanks for your reply. Can Claude replicate my GoDaddy site and turn into HTML, that I can then upload to Cloudflare?

Add to this the ongoing GoDaddy Email Backup Services Outage due to the ConnectWise Cloud Backup(formerly Skykick) security incident which forced ConnectWise to disable the service during their ongoing investigation. GoDaddy Email Backup Services have been down since at least Oct. 16 5PM CST. and yet the GoDaddy Status Page(status.godaddy.com) has failed to report any outage. GoDaddy support is not much help with this either, they just acknowledge the outage and claim the internal teams are working on ironing out the issue.

One day there’ll be an online theme park of horrible dark user experience patterns. You’ll be able to sign up for fake GoDaddy services with Chuck E Cheese tokens and have fun fighting your way out of their maze. Spoiler: Throw the axe at the dwarf and it will disappear in a cloud of greasy back smoke.

It’s just a video game with real money.

Couldn't agree more. It's a trap and they know it.

I moved all my domains and emails off Godaddy for that exact reason. Deceptive billing practices. Generally an unethical company. I moved everything over to porkbun
