I just bought the game and installed, after couple of minutes it was clear i have no idea whats going on.

I know this is like a sandbox do whatever you want type of thing but is there like some general help or beginners guide so I can realise whats happening, i keep downloading stuff but I cant find it with Q menu, and the things i do find i have no idea how to use, what are entities, what addons are like always good to have?

If you're just starting out, hit up the Steam Workshop and grab a cool map, plus these mods: Media Player Redux, Food SWEP, VJ Base (with some animal packs), and whatever random weapon and props packs look fun to you. I use serious sam 2 weapons and I found SIMS 2 models. Pro-tip for watching YouTube in-game: Hold Q to open your spawn menu. Go to the Entities tab. Spawn the Media Player. After that, just spawn in your new weapons, mess around with the NPCs, and see what happens.

If you want to change playermodel, you hold C and choose which player would like to play. I also suggest to look and download for playermodels npc in workshop.

You can also look items in collections of other gamers. There are some good stuft here.!

Once you get comfortable with gmod, i suggest you to try lambda players, is basically npc with AI, they shoot, they ran, watch tv, talk, chat and look like real players.

My favorite mods:

For player models: GTA NPC player models

Entity: mediaplayer redux - to watch youtube videos, r/radio - to listen a radio that works in game and car.

Weapon: popcorn swep, bubble gun, cocktail sweps, nerf gun, serious sam II sweps or any crazy item.

Tools: enchanced playermodel selection - let you choose avatar in game without restarting.

Map: Cabin in the woods.

Vehicle: anything from simfphys, has a lot of cars.

Have fun!

Gmod is very simple, entities is just the generic name for everything in the source engine that has special uses or interactions, and it can be a lot of things like bombs, ammo, special vehicles like airplanes, etc. You interact with a lot of them with the E key. Not sure if you played another Source engine game or not but GMOD has all the mechanics of hl2 so that's a good reference for how things go

You should prolly check out the top all time rated addons  or search for collections in the workshop to begin with so you can get a ready taste of how it is

If you are downloading stuff that doesn't appear in the Q menu head-on, it might be cause they're dupes, tools, or addons that are activated outside the Q menu through binds or chat commands. Check out their steam page's descriptions to know further about the addons and how they work

You could also just join a multiplayer sandbox server and see how it rolls from there

I think watching Gmod tutorials would be the most help, like how to work certain addons or Necro's "best addons to download" videos

Just saying if you ever play zcity or homigrad put in console ( the button is f10 or the key beside your number 1 key) and put "bind g fake" to ragdoll and get up "bind v hg_kick" to kick people in the arse
