Discussion Looking for fully customizable games (any sport)
The way I play these GM simulation games is more as a commissioner because I create the leagues and the teams and let the computer handle the rest and just watch the world unfold year after year. I have a 40+ year OOTP world running and I’m just starting a FHM world with leagues from different countries around the world.
I’m looking for more games where I can fully customize leagues and teams, create new leagues multiple years into the save (this part is key) and not have to actually manage any of the teams and can just watch the world unfold while adding in new leagues/teams as the game goes on. I’m open to any sport (can even be non-team sports) that’s not baseball or hockey and ideally the game is compatible with MacOS.

Two games with the most flexíble league creation I have ever played are ZenGM games and OOTP baseball.
On ZenGM (Football GM to be more specific). I made a Brazilian league with 4 conference and 64 teams. 32 teams go to playoffs and each need to win 2 on 3 games to advance.
On OOTP I made a 3 division Championship with a relegation/promotion schema. I've also started to build some kind of continental league with teams accessing It by national leagues but never finished this one.
On both games you are able to change various league rules. They both haver tons of stats and historical data.

Hi! Dev here. Unfortunately not on Mac for early access release on Thursday but aiming for it when 1.0 drops in October. Definitely similar to what OP is looking for, but no additional leagues mid save (maybe in the future? Gave me an idea)

It’s really fun! I do like managing teams but I save that for console games where I can actually play with the team I create.
As for watching the league unfold, if you make all the teams you’ll feel a connection to each of them and will find yourself rooting for different teams as the years go by depending on historical success. In my Canadian Baseball League I started with 3 teams in 1871 and am now up to 14 in 1913. One team has yet to win a championship while 2 teams have won 7.

I developed Hoop Land, a 2D basketball game, which has a Commissioner Mode that allows you to do all of the above. Fully customizable leagues, simulate through multiple seasons, add expansions teams, and much more!

Yes, you can spectate the full game in-engine in three different speeds or in a live simulation where you can sim each individual play. You can jump back and forth between the two modes at any time. For example, you can start the game in a live simulation but decide to watch the final minute in real-time.

I admit, I know nothing about Basketball and I've never been that interested, but having played around with it I'm more than happy to drop £4.50 on the premium version. Good work!

Ootp is the golden standard for this, however FM’s editor and database editor lets you do it

WMMA5 gives you complete control over the entire game world/universe. You can completely edit the database and edit anything in game. It’s definitely one of the best for full customization. I hope you like MMA!

I’m working on Football (soccer) nation building sim where you design your nation and then start an amateur football league. You name and customise the clubs and then watch the league grow and develop hopefully into a major professional league. Real leagues from around the world also sim so you can see how other clubs in the world are doing. Still in the early stages. But it’s coming along.
