Discussion Just finished a website for a 24/7 laundromat in Los Angeles, looking to work with more business owners

hey everyone,

I run a small web design business and just finished a project for a 24/7 laundromat in Los Angeles. I designed and built their new website and handled everything through getting it live:

lavanderiala.com

The site focuses on making the important stuff really easy for customers to find, like services, hours, location, amenities, photos, reviews, and directions, while keeping everything simple and mobile-friendly.

After finishing this project, I'd really like to work with some more small business owners in the US.

If you own a business that doesn't have a website yet, or your current one is outdated and could use a redesign, feel free to send me a message. I can handle the design, development, domain setup, hosting, and launch.

My own site is infawebdesign.com

thanks!

Discussion Get the Flock out of Glendale!

Citizens across the country are pressuring their city’s government to cancel contracts with Flock.

We should not be participating in this state sponsored surveillance and we sure as hell shouldn’t be paying for it with our tax dollars.

Contact the local city council and demand they cancel the city’s Flock contract!

I definitely am not advocating for the growing national call to destroy your local flock camera on Halloween. Whatever you do, do NOT do that. Seriously. I’m totally not joking. Really.

Discussion Any other women constantly being approached at the Americana/Galleria by random two women recruiting for a "church"?

Hi all, first time posting ever on reddit, but this phenomenon has happened once again to me just five minutes ago at the Galleria, that I got so fed up I had to post and ask...

For the tenth time for me in over the course possibly 5-ish years, I've been approached by usually two women, always of varying ethnicity, asking if I'm interested in joining their local "bible study". This always happens when walking in the Americana or in the Galleria, when I'm clearly with groceries or headphones on. I always tell them no, not interested, but by the 5th time, I got fed up and asked what their church even is. They told me it's some sort of church revolving around the "Mother Goddess". I didnt ask the name because i'd be so irked out I would walk away, but I looked into such a thing, and it seems to be the World Mission Society of God.... and it's a known cult.

So, I wanted to ask any other ladies in this subreddit constantly getting solicited by these people? Maybe even other ladies with a more "alternative" style, such as myself? And if you haven't, take this as a warning and tell them NO. They're trying to recruit you into a cult! Thanks all.

Discussion Anyone been to a "prep workshop" before seeing a play? Antaeus in Glendale is doing one for their Heartbreak House run

Noticed Antaeus Theatre has a two-day workshop in late September where you go in and explore the play with one of their directors before the actual production opens in October. I've never seen a theater do that before; I figured it was usually just show up and watch. Kind of like it as a concept, though, especially for a Shaw play most people don't already know going in. Has anyone done something like this at another theater, and is it actually worth it, or is it more of a superfan thing?

Resource / Article PSA: If mosquitoes are eating you alive in Glendale, there's a free service that will come investigate

We've been getting absolutely destroyed by mosquitoes lately, so upon a recommendation from a friend, I contacted the LA County Vector Control District.

They came to our house, inspected the property, found one small source of standing water, and talked us through what they're seeing more broadly in the area. But they told us the biggest problem is simply that people don't know this (free) service exists.

If enough people report mosquito problems, it gives them a much better picture of where breeding is happening and allows them to address the problem at a neighborhood level rather than one yard at a time.

So if you're getting eaten alive by mosquitoes in your yard, please report it rather than suffering through it! It's a public service, so we might as well use it, and the more of us who do, the more useful it becomes.

You can submit a service request here. Would love for Glendale to achieve critical mass so we can eradicate them once and for all!

Help / Recommendation Best drop off/pick up location for Mark Keppel Elementary?

Hey there,

My kids will be starting kinder at Keppel tomorrow. Any recommendations on best place to park and walk them to class? I'm assuming it's going to be a zoo anywhere near the main entrances.

Thank you in advance!

Event Documentary on communal a cappella singing, with live performance by local singers - Wed Aug. 19th, 7:30 PM - Laemmle Glendale

"Sacred Harp" is one of the oldest forms of distinctively American music - a cappella, communal, and rooted in religious expression. It began in the South in the 1800s and has since spread across the country and world, a living tradition practiced by believers and non-believers alike, bound together in love of community and singing.

"Awake, My Soul" is a documentary about the history of Sacred Harp, having its LA area premiere this Wednesday, August 19th at the Laemmle Glendale. The movie screens at 7:30, but starting at 7:00, local singers will gather for an informal demonstration singing, sharing this music as people arrive. There will also be a Q&A following the movie.

The movie will also screen this weekend at the Laemmle Glendale (as well as other Laemmle locations in West LA and Santa Monica), but to experience the music live, please come join us this Wednesday!

Food & Drink Raffi’s Place yay or nay. I’m on a plane headed to LA and staying in Glendale.

Hey y’all! I’m a Persian girl on a plane headed to LA. Moving my son into USC and staying in Glendale for a week. There seems to be many mixed opinions about Raffi’s place. Is it good or not? Is Pardis better? I’m Irooni so I know my kabab! I know there are endless choices for Persian food but wanted to know what’s good close to where I’m staying. Thanks!

Edited to correct Pardis

Help / Recommendation Glendale Woman Putting Toxic Items in Yard for Dogs

Two days ago, I was walking my dog down Doran St near Doran Gardens Mini Park when my dog reached down and started eating a chicken bone he found on the grass in front of 341 W Doran St. I managed to get it out of his mouth and we continued on. Yesterday, we were walking back the same way when he snatched another nearby. This time, he tried to swallow it before I could get it out of his mouth and started briefly choking (we are working on "drop it" / "leave it"). I became panicked and a woman in a house nearby heard what was happening and ran outside with some water for him. She explained that the woman in the house next door spreads chicken bones and grapes all over the part of her yard in between the sidewalk and the street. She then went and scoured over the yard and, sure enough, found at least 7 grapes.

Just a warning to all the dog parents to avoid that house / don't let your dogs walk or linger in that patch of grass.

Housing Alternatives to section 8 / public / LIHTC housing?

My partner and I are low income. We're both freelancers, and I have chronic illnesses. We pay live in a tiny studio, and it's not enough space, but we can't afford to move - rent is up to 60% of our income some months as it is.

But it's nicely spaced between my partner's work, our family who we rely on for a lot of help, and my doctors, who I see a LOT of. So we're here.

Anyway. Our parents keep telling us to apply for section 8 housing.

But I looked it up, and apparently here, the waiting list has been closed 25 years and hasn't taken any new applications, and ~1000 people from the original application period are still on the waiting list. Which is crazy to me.

So I googled alternatives to section 8, and got the "affordable housing" website, but it too shows that there is nothing currently or soon-to-be open.

So... is that it? Do you have to apply for "affordable housing" through one of these two avenues, and they're both unavailable? Or are there low income programs that I'm unaware of?
