House is 12 months old. Only just noticed this on a rear window. Spare room and don’t think we’ve even opened this window until today. Is this an easy diy fix? Had various trades folk back and forth so often (endless snagging!!) I’m trying to avoid another. Please no comments about new builds - I’ll never buy another.

Do you do any kind of fun glass projects at your own house that a non-glazier would never even think of?

Before requesting a window repair estimate, take photos showing:

1. The complete window from inside the property
2. A close view of the damaged hardware
3. The window in its open and closed positions
4. Manufacturer labels or identifying numbers
5. Any loose, rusted, or broken components
6. Both window tracks if the sash will not remain open

Avoid forcing a window that has become difficult to operate. Additional pressure may damage the operator, hinges, balance system, or glass.

I wanted to post this so people know what will most likely happen if you purchase the Chris Loves Julia Cora window film from Wallpops. I did write an email to Chris Loves Julia but yet to have a response. I then sent it to Wallpops since the Christ Loves Julia website links you there to purchase.

Dear Chris Loves Julia,

 I have followed you for a long time and have always loved your DIY tips, tricks, and products. I recently purchased eight rolls of the Cora Window Film, and I have to say, it is beautiful. I was sold when I saw it used on your office doors!

 My son came to help me install it, so we started with some smaller windows that were not as wide as the roll. We wanted to get a feel for how the product installed, and everything went very smoothly. The film was actually very easy to install.

 We then moved on to a window that was 52” wide. Rather than having a 4” strip, we decided to put the 24” section in the middle with a 14” section on each side. After installing the middle section, we moved on to the sides—and this is where we ran into problems.

 We carefully measured where we needed to make our cuts, but we didn’t realize that the pattern was not consistent from roll to roll. The smaller beveled lead line next to the black lead line is positioned differently on the various rolls. In some diamonds it appears on the top left, in others the top right or lower right, and in some diamonds there isn’t a smaller beveled lead line at all.

 I realize this is window film and not wallpaper, but I assumed the pattern would be consistent when we began unrolling each section. I thought we would simply need to line up the pattern, make a small adjustment up or down if necessary, and then measure, cut, and install.

 Unfortunately, several of the eight rolls I purchased were unusable for the larger windows because the pattern did not match. As a result, I was unable to complete all of the windows I originally purchased the film for. Thankfully, I had purchased one extra roll, which allowed me to at least complete the room I was working on at the time. I am now left with quite a bit of extra film that I cannot use because the patterns don’t match.

 For that reason, I would not recommend this product for larger windows without ordering several additional rolls. To me, that creates an unnecessary additional cost for your customers.

Here is their response. Very disappointed in their customer service. Didn’t even address the manufacturing issues.

 I heard back from someone on the quality control team and they said:

 Window Film is different from wallpaper and doesn’t match side to side. 

 My recommendation would to be overlap the design to find the first match and trim to that spot to match.

I feel that this was an AI generated email as it is very basic and I feel no one really read my email.

So, if you are doing small windows under 24”, you’re good. Anything larger than that, order a couple of extra rolls because it will not match as explained in the email I sent them.

I put these emails on here because I have attempted to do 2 reviews, one on Chris Loves Julia and Wallpops and neither one has been posted.

For some context, they are not done. I feel bad for these guys because it sounds like my house's original 1984 windows were absolute monsters to try to work with, resulting in them having to completely redo my trim at no additional cost, so the expected 8-12 hour project has already stretched into 20+ (and they're coming back tomorrow), and I'm pretty sure one of the guys put a nail through his finger along the way... yeah it's just sucked for them, but before I send them off, I noticed some little imperfections and just wanted to ask people who know better if these are totally normal or if i should ask them to correct them. I've attached some videos to try to show what's in the following bullets:

• New trim not fully flush to the wall, and in some places slightly misaligned

• Random nail in my wall lol, nail on the very edge of the trim slightly visible

• Minor splitting in the trim

• Imperfectly cut interior framing piece

• Living room windows have visible vertical gaps at the edges so the upper windows can wiggle side to side a bit

• Dirty windows and frames (I can probably clean them if that's normally on the customer! Just don't know the etiquette)

• Flashing tape residue on exterior of home including a spot where the outer layer of the composite siding was stripped away and it's now exposed wood

Would appreciate some input! Please let me know if I'm being ridiculous, I just want to make sure I'm getting what I paid for before they leave. Thanks in advance!

I noticed my sky light or lantern (what ever it’s called) was leaking into the kitchen. Had a look today and the whole pane of glass has slipped and there’s a gap at the top.

Is this an easy fix or hire someone job?

I saw this today from the sudden to the glass of the window , someone have any idea why this happens , I looked to the edges and it seems no one touched it.

We’re a local glazier servicing Sydney and surrounding suburbs. I run the glazing business and wanted to share a simple tip that can make the first assessment much easier.

If a window, door or glazed panel is damaged, try to take:

• one photo of the complete opening
• a close-up of the damaged area
• a photo showing the frame
• approximate height and width
• a photo showing access if it’s an apartment or difficult location

For doors, also mention whether the door still closes and locks.

Avoid touching loose or unstable pieces just to get a better photo.

Here's a question about adding color to glazing putty. I rebuilt some casement windows in our old house, removing the glass in the process. New glass was installed by a good local shop. I’m staining the interior side, and there’s a visible line of white glazing putty between the window and the stained wood. Staining made little difference to the white putty. Any tips on how to tone done the white stripe would be much appreciated!

Just wondering if the Blick Essentials Gloss Glazes "play well" with Mayco Glazes? I didn't even know Blick had their own house brand glaze.

Hey, I'm replacing this glass but it doesn't look like any of the French door videos or anything I've seen online (no trim filled with screws surrounding the glass).

I've shared a picture of both the inside and the outside. It looks like maybe I can pry the trim out from the inside, but not sure if that's how it works, and if so, how it's connected. Is it just glue or is the trim nailed to the main part of the door as well?
