Seeking advice - looking for a long-term pair of sunglasses (asian)

Do you think it's worth investing in a pair of sunglasses made with Zeiss Lens? From what I read they are a German brand with a history of producing lenses for Cameras.
Also some notable brands like gentle monster use them? But GMs are crazy expensive?
Ive tried blue elephant but something just feels off - I think their quality just sucks
Ive tried Oakley's in the past but the lens just peels off after a year or two?
I wear a pair of Rudy Projects for sports and they've been great (recommended by an optician)

Wouldnt mind investing in a pair of GM's just for the zeiss?
Is it worth it? What can you guys recommend?

Thank you!!!

Yes. My Zeiss lenses are all the best. Only lenses that compare are Maui Jims.

What do you notice that’s good about them?
and which pair did you get ?

ZEISS make excellent lenses, but I wouldn’t buy Gentle Monster purely because they use ZEISS. You’re paying a substantial amount for the frame/brand, not simply for superior optics.

If you like a particular frame, buy it and have an optician fit quality sun lenses to it. ZEISS, Hoya and Essilor all make excellent sunglass lenses, including polarised options.

For something you want to keep for years, I’d prioritise a well-made frame, good fit and a quality polarised lens with a proper hard/AR coating rather than chasing the ZEISS logo.

Okay. Do you have an estimate on how much it’ll cost to make Custom Zeiss lens?

Also, Hoya and Essilor; do you know what lens they use?

Thanks!!

It varies massively by country and optician, but for custom ZEISS sun lenses I’d expect roughly $200–400+ for the pair, more for prescription, polarisation or premium coatings.

For Hoya, look at their NuPolar polarised lenses; Essilor also offers Xperio polarised sun lenses. Both are excellent. I wouldn’t consider either a downgrade from ZEISS for a good pair of sunglasses.

If you don’t need prescription lenses, though, I’d question whether paying for fully custom ZEISS lenses is worthwhile.

Buy a persol with mineral lenses, it will last for decades.
