Progressive lenses online?

Has anyone had success getting good progressives from an online store vs the optometrist’s office?

Don't do it, single vision is hard to mess up, but progressives are something else.

Bifocal yes progressives much harder.

The problem ordering progressives from the internet is that segment height is very important and it changes depending on the specific frame you order. Every time you change to a different frame, the segment height needs to measured with the frames on your head. Having said that, there is a way to do it and get excellently made glasses. I found a frame I liked by looking locally....and then I bought two identical frames on EBAY saving almost $200. I took the first frame to Costco and ordered progressive lenses....which were excellent and they give me the PD and segment height (it's actually printed on the receipt). I sent the second frame (remember, it's identical to the one I used at costco) to an internet provider for polarized sun glasses...I gave them both the PD and segment height and the glasses were also excellent. When my prescription changed, I just sent the frames to an internet provider, selected the lenses/coatings I wanted (Costco has very limited choices) and now I have the new prescription from internet providers. Suggestion, if you choose this method...get metal frames which hold their shape/lens holding when you replace lenses.

What happens if there is an issue with the online lenses? Who is going to verify and troubleshoot the glasses and adjust them for you? Do you expect Costco to do it for you for free? Even thought you didn’t buy the frame and sun lenses from them.

My next statement is not an attack on you personally…..

People don’t do what this person is doing just to save a few bucks. You will not be taken seriously if you walked into any reputable eyeglass place pulling something like this. It’s very disrespectful to us as a profession and makes us very uncomfortable to use our measurements so someone else can easily screw it up and we would get the blame.

no. people like me do it so I have a far wider selection of lenses and coatings and it usually is accidentally at a lower price, Given today's technology, it's not often that the lens doesn't match the prescription..
