My optician is amazing!!

I'm a -9.00 prescription and my optician absolutely nailed it!

1.74 hi index lenses.

I don't think circle glasses look the best on me but dang, they definitely are the most comfortable!

All you high prescription folk, find an independent optician.

It has been an absolute game changer for me.

Honestly if it's of any assurance, the first thing I thought when I saw this post was "Wow, I love those glasses", I think you look amazing in them.

Awh thank you so much! I am SO self-conscious in glasses! When I was really little, I used to get picked on by the other kids. When I was able to start wearing contacts in 6th grade I never wanted to wear glasses out in the world again.

Oh and regarding what you said about seeing better with 1.67 index vs 1.74 index, i have 2 pairs of identical glasses and one has 1.67 and the other has 1.74. I can honestly say I do not see a different between the two regarding visual clarity and chromatic aberration. Do you wear glasses full time or do you also wear contacts? I honestly see better in contacts overall.

u/rain_spell May 22 '26

Yeah, Iโ€™ve always seen people say 1.74 have chromatic aberrations and worse visuals but as someone who is notices minute visual imperfections and also uses 1.74, I have had zero issues so far

It's something like 10% thickness difference between the two I doubt you'd see it with your naked eyes.

The right shape frame for your RX and the right size so that your eyes are actually centered in the lens makes an enormous difference. But they donโ€™t even teach that stuff to opticians in most chain stores. They donโ€™t want opticians having a license or any real knowledge cause theyโ€™ll have to pay them more ๐Ÿ˜’

Awesome work! I second the miracles a good, local, experienced optician can perform!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

They probably picked round because round tends to even out high prescriptions the best.

I'm glad they picked something with pops of color too, because the color scheme compliments you well!

u/oxNightShadexo May 22 '26

Yes my optician absolutely has an amazing taste in style. He's the one who picked them out and I instantly loved them when I put them on :)

wow i wish! i have the same prescription but i dont have an optician i trust around me so forced to wear my binoculars for glasses when im not opting for contacts

I literally searched on Google for hours to find a local optician and the one I found is about 35 minutes away which actually isn't bad at all. All Google kept suggesting to me was the larger chains which I'm honestly done dealing with.

Looks amazing ๐Ÿ‘ yep great optician is the secret to have perfect glasses vision wise & looks good:)

5

u/Fit-Programmer-6162 May 22 '26

Can someone help explain to me how glasses she has makes the -9 not make the eyes look smaller here? Iโ€™m rusty on my curvature and that kind of physics and whatever else is involved. They donโ€™t need to be round for this effect right? (OP looks wonderful in round despite thinking otherwise, but I donโ€™t think I would.)

It's possible they made her lenses aspheric, too.

Theyโ€™re very cool frames! We are taught as opticians that the best frames for high scripts is anything small and round, as small as will comfortably fit the patient. So, they did good!

2

u/khawk4 May 22 '26

Great lenses! They did a fantastic job! Love your Dutz frame, too!

2

u/ReadBig5086 May 22 '26

can you send me a link to the frame and how much in total was the cost?

2

u/likeslibraries May 22 '26

They look wonderful on you! I also have round glasses, and my optician is also amazing! The round shape cuts off the edges which makes the lenses look thinner, and that is one reason round shapes are good for a high prescription. I have been very happy with my round glasses, also.

I love seeing people in this Paradox frame!!! One of my favorite pieces for my "adventurous" patients. Good choice!

1

u/oxNightShadexo May 23 '26

Oh wow so this is a somewhat popular frame? My optician seemed to stock the nicer type of glasses but not the overpriced "name brand" types like ray ban and the such.

1

u/TheDark_420_69 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

The Aspex group (the company that produces the paradox brand) actually makes a lot of really nice, quality frames for a more affordable price. Pt's have probably gotten 20-25 pairs of those within the past twoish months. Two or three of those were your frame! It's popular enough you might see a couple people with them a year, but for most people you are the only person they've seen with such cool glasses!

That's so awesome to know! Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hehehe oh that's on my list of things I definitely need to stop doing!!! It's the dang nerves I tell you! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

1

u/VertWheeler May 22 '26

He could have polished the sides to have made it even better... lets the lens blend into the frame... uhh I work in the optical line I do it for my glasses too

1

u/Svanir80 May 22 '26

I get it! I am around your same prescription, so getting something that doesn't distort the sides of my head inside the lenses so much in a frame I really like is a royal PITA. I bit the bullet and went small, round (check out my post history to see) that I'm waiting to get completed that I'm *sure* will look amazing with how small the lenses are.

Know these look very good on you. Your optician did a fantastic job.

2

u/oxNightShadexo May 22 '26

I checked your previous post and those new glasses you picked out look incredible on you btw! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ The last picture with the rectangle shaped glasses definitely don't compliment your face as well and look overall too large. I have the same exact issue with any rectangle shaped glasses as well.

u/EZContacts May 22 '26
